Summary

POP Montreal is a grass roots festival created and supported by people who love music and live performance. Founded in 2002 by fans and supporters of music, it has expanded in scope and vision every year, and will celebrate its 8th anniversary from September 30th to October 4th this fall.

Each year, the five-day festival presents more than 400 artists. Delivering a bold cross-section of art forms and events, the festival includes symposium discussions, artisan and visual art exhibitions, fashion shows, film screenings, and, of course, a few all-night parties. For musicians and artists, fans, curators, critics, record labels and industry, POP Montreal is the North American festival that provides a dynamic introduction to the next generation of musical talent and independent art forms.

This year’s festival will take place September 30th to October 4th, 2009 in over 40 venues throughout Montreal. There will be at least 20 slots reserved for Sonicbids artists. Selected artist(s) will be compensated for their performance(s). Last year, more than 45 Sonicbids bands showcased at Pop Montreal. Past festival performers include Patti Smith, Bun B, Fred Wesley, Malajube, Tokyo Police Club, A-Trak, Gonzales, Beck, Blonde Redhead, Interpol, Queens of the Stone Age, Devin The Dude, The Arcade Fire, Ratatat, Stars, Tapes n' Tapes, The Dears, Burt Bacharach, Nick Cave, Joanna Newsom and Socalled.

Pop Montreal remains firmly entrenched in the ethic and aesthetics of the Montreal music community. We are committed to providing opportunities for independent musicians, promoters and fans to participate in this world class event. Because our initiatives began from grassroots efforts, we remain open to all, willingly engaging all ideas and inspiration. We will not become some compromised showcase for untried bands and the big record execs that feed off of them. We challenge this linear equation. We strive to be provocative and encourage artists to involve themselves in making this happen.

Please note: Pop Montreal will stop accepting submissions once they've received 2,000 submissions on Sonicbids. This may happen prior to the stated deadline.
