Pride Charlotte, a project of the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of Charlotte, presents the Queen City’s annual Pride Charlotte Festival 2012. Pride Charlotte’s cultural festival includes multiple stages of entertainment, musicians, bands, comedy and dance performers and more. It is looking to book solo artists and bands to perform live at the festival on August 25th-26th, 2012, and is reserving 5 slots for Sonicbids artists. A wide variety of genres are welcome at the festival. Artists will be compensated for their performances.

About the festival:

Pride Charlotte attracts thousands of people for its Pride Week and Pride Festival, which boasts live entertainment, children’s area and numerous participating vending booths, including art exhibitors, area non-profits, political candidates, retailers, food stands and more. The premier event is the culmination of a week-long slate of events highlighting the social, cultural, ethnic, artistic and political diversity of the metro Charlotte area’s LGBT community.

Pride festivities had been held in Charlotte since the 1970s, with events held at a variety of locations, including UNC-Charlotte, Bryant Park and Marshall Park, the parking lot at Scorpio and The VanLandingham Estate. It looks to empower all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied peoples to stand as unique individuals and together as a community, with the purpose of uniting as a creative, social, economic and influential force.

In 2006, the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of Charlotte took over operations of the new Pride Charlotte. The Center’s new Pride organization was formed in response to the closing of the non-profit Charlotte Pride following its turbulent 2005 event marked by the overwhelming presence of local anti-LGBT protesters.
