Over the past four decades, Queensland has produced some of the finest songwriters; not just from the country, but from the world. From The Bee Gees to Bernard Fanning, Queensland’s music stands tall on the world stage.



Q Song is an initiative of The Queensland Music Network Inc – Queensland’s leading contemporary music body for more than a decade. In its inaugural year (2006), Q Song attracted 900 entries from songwriters statewide. Over 800 members of the Queensland, national and international music industry attended the awards ceremony held at Family nightclub. The 2006 Winners were:

  • Roz Pappalardo (World/Folk)

  • Sean Gagen (Secondary School)

  • Ben Stewart (Gospel/Spiritual)

  • Dr. Octopus (Regional)

  • The Winnie Coopers (Hip-Hop)

  • MonkeyBone (Punk/Metal)

  • Sean Foran (Jazz)

  • Dakuta (Rand B)

  • Freddie ShortJoe (Indigenous)



There were also awards recognising established artists such as Bernard Fanning (2006 Published Song of the Year Award) and the late Grant McLennan (2006 Lifetime Achievement Award).



Q Song is open to all unpublished Queensland songwriters. Songwriters can enter unlimited songs in 13 different categories: Pop, Rock, Blues and Roots,Country, Hip Hop, Electronic Dance, Jazz, World/Folk, Indigenous, Alternative, Gospel/Spiritual, Primary School, Secondary School, and Metal/Punk.



Each category winner is awarded a $1000 cash prize and $500 cash prize for primary and secondary school categories. Winners are selected by a panel of Queensland music industry professionals and announced at the Q Song Awards, which will be held in August 2007.



Q Song 2007 is proudly sponsored by ABC local radio Queensland and 612 ABC Brisbane, The Courier-Mail, SonyBMG, EMI, MGM, Rockinghorse Records, Pinnacles Music, Warner Music Australia, SugarRush Records,Ellaways Music, Modern Music, Nightlife Music and Video, and Mission Australia.



Terms And Conditions

Q SONG AWARDS 2007
OFFICIAL RULES AND CONDITIONS

1. Q SONG AWARDS 2007 is open to all residents of Queensland. The song must be the original work of the entrant and the entrant must not be signed to a major record label (excluding distribution deals). Entries must not compromise Q Music's obligations to its principal sponsors for the event.

2. GENRE CATEGORIES that can be entered are - Pop; Country; Electronic/Dance; Punk/Metal; Alternative; Rock; Hip-Hop; World & Folk; Jazz; Blues/Roots; Gospel/Spiritual, Indigenous, Schools and Regional.

The Indigenous Category is open only to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander songwriters.

The Regional Category is open to all songwriters outside of Brisbane.

School Aged Categories: PRIMARY (year 1 - 7); SECONDARY (years 8 - 12).

The Song of the Year, Courier-Mail Peoplefs Choice Award and The Q Music Encouragement Award will be chosen from the finalists of the above genre categories.

The Published Song of the Year Award and the Grant McLennan Lifetime Achievement Award nominations will be selected by a panel of Queensland Music Industry professionals.

3. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC may be entered into all categories.

4. The same song may be entered into more than one category but a separate entry fee and lyrics must be provided..

5. Make sure all songwriters of each song entered are clearly listed.

A. COMPLETED ENTRY. By ticking the box, the entrant agrees to accept the rules and conditions of the competition.

B. SONG LYRICS.You must provide the words to each song entered, (songs sung in languages other than English must have an English translation).

6. THE CLOSING DATE for entries is Monday May 28th.

7. Four finalists will be chosen in each category. The nominees will be notified by MONDAY JUNE 25th, 2007. Finalists will be notifed by Q Music.

8. ALL COPYRIGHTS remain the property of the songwriter. No contestant may infringe upon existing copyrights and agreeing to the terms and conditions the contestant agrees that the Queensland Music Network Inc. (Q MUSIC) is not held responsible for any such infringement which may occur, and will indemnify Q MUSIC against any legal action which may arise as a result of such breaches of copyright.

9. ALL CATEGORY WINNERS agree to have their winning entry included on various websites as a NON-DOWNLOADABLE MUSIC FILE.

10. WINNERS will be announced at the presentation ceremony in August 2007 (date to be announced).

11. CASH PRIZES will be awarded at the Q SONG AWARDS 2007 Presentation Ceremony. Recording Studio time will be available upon arrangement with Q MUSIC and each category studio sponsor (contact Q MUSIC for details).

12. Q MUSIC STAFF and affiliated sponsors of Q SONG AWARDS 2007 are not eligible to enter the Competition.

13.. WINNING SONGS from previous years are not eligible to be re-entered.
