Summary

The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival has 10 slots for Sonicbids artists. Selected artists will be awarded cash and prizes, and special performance opportunities.

The Opportunity

The Songwriter Showcase is a nationally recognized songwriter competition that takes place during the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, at the scenic Planet Bluegrass Ranch along the banks of the St. Vrain River in Lyons, Colorado. 10,000 people attend Rocky Mountain Folks Festival during the course of their three-day event.

Sponsors include Taylor Guitars and ASCAP.

The Band

The competition is open to solo performers who write and sing original music, and who are not signed to a major label or publishing deal. Acceptable styles include singer-songwriter, Americana, folk, pop, and bluegrass. 

Past finalists include Erica Wheeler, Don Conoscenti, Karen Pernick, Deb Talan, Dan Sheridan, Dee Carstensen, Mitch Barrett, Sarah Sample, Chuck E. Costa, Liz Longley, Megan Burtt, Caleb Hawley, Robby Hecht, Caroline Spence and many others.

The Gig

Finalists will receive a camping/festival pass, and will perform on the festival main stage and at the Wildflower Pavilion on Friday, August 15thThe contest winner will perform a full main stage set. 

Contestants are judged on the quality of the song's composition, vocal delivery, and overall performance. When choosing songs to submit, please consider:

  • Submissions must be entirely written by the entering songwriter. Sorry, no co-writes.
  • Submissions should showcase the songwriter as the lead vocalist.
  • Songwriters are highly encouraged to submit new and different songs for this contest. New songs will be given preference by the panel of judges.
