Sistahood is produced by the Working Arts Society, a non-profit organization.

In recognition of International Women's Day, The Sistahood Celebration is a festival designed to advance audience and artist development across a spectrum of diversities. Sistahood provides a safe space for creative expression for emerging and established women and gender-diverse artists involved in a range of artistic disciplines, and facilitates dialogue between these artists and the local community. Each year the artistic vision and programming is used to provoke critical thinking on social, political and cultural issues; and to illuminate new strategies for integrating broad community development with individual artistic practice.

The 2009 Sistahood Celebration will take place in Vancouver, BC, Canada from the end of February through the month of March. Exact dates will be discussed upon acceptance for a performance slot. Selected artists may also be eligible for inclusion on the "Sounds of Sistahood" a compilation CD, depending on space, availability and quality of the sound recordings submitted.

All genres are accepted. Compensation is available to accepted artists and will be negotiated upon acceptance. There will be a minimum of three to five spots reserved for Sonicbids members.
