The committees which comprise the Student Event Committee (SEC) are:

  • Concerts: The SEC concert committee brings bands and performers to campus. They plan outdoor concerts in the fall and spring as well as major concerts. They have worked with local bands like Barefoot Truth and Darlingside, as well as national acts like The Counting Crows, Vampire Weekend, Feist and Jay Sean.

  • Jittery's: Jittery's is the SEC's coffeehouse series. They bring up-and-coming acoustic performers to campus. Jittery's takes place Thursday nights at 10 p.m. in the Campus Center TV lounge and is a great opportunity to take a break, enjoy a coffee and some great music.

  • Films: The SEC film committee brings first run films to campus each weekend. Films are shown weekly on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Selections range from comedies to thrillers to indie films.

  • Special Events: The special events committee of the SEC plans everything from large-scale parties to bowling nights. They also plan “Break From The Norm” events, which are quick, fun lunchtime programs meant to allow students to take a minute out of their busy schedule to relax and recharge.

  • Synergies: The SEC synergies committee is dedicated to helping student organizations plan collaborative events. Their mission is to develop leadership and programming experiences at Smith by collaborating with other groups to plan events.

  • Vocal Expressions: The SEC vocal expressions committee brings comedians and spoken word artists to campus. We have worked with artists such as Eric O'Shea, Tim Young, Alix Olsen and Mayda Del Valle.
