Summary

Washington DC will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed 50,000 slaves on the day, and later millions more. However, in our Post Modern era slavery is more prevalent throughout the world than ever before.

Much of our electronic equipment, clothes and food is produced using slave labor. Then of course there are all the ways in which we enslave ourselves. It is a huge topic. Eco Arts Awards is sponsoring this themed song competition and will pay $1,000 cash to the most compelling arrangement and lyrics of this theme.

The winner will be announced on the actual anniversary of the Signing of the Emancipation Proclamation: Sept. 22, 1862 ~ 2012

Jurors for the Songs of Freedom Competition include George Porter Jr. who is a founding member, bassist, and singer of the legendary funk group The Meters as well as singer/songwriter/guitarist Michael Tomlinson.
