Summary

Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues started Songwars to nurture emerging songwriters with the help of the pros. Songwars is a quarterly contest with annual and quarterly prizes worth over $50,000. Click here to read Sonicbids' interview with Mike Pinder in the Sonicbids Lounge.

Each Entry receives a written Critique. Every song is listened to with care and thoughtfully critiqued by Mike's panel. You get "hands on" Feedback. In some cases, songs are listened to more than 20 times during the judging process. Your song is really well-studied.


PRIZES


Prizes will be awarded to 1st Place Category Winners and 2nd Place Category Runners Up. Additional prizes will be awarded to the Quarterly Outstanding Award Winner and an Annual Grand Pinder Award Winner selected from the four quarterly grand-prize winners. Finalists, Semi-Finalists and Honorable Mention Certificates will be awarded for notable songwriting achievements.

    SONGWARS "SONG of the WEEK"

    "Song of the week" is a special ongoing showcase throughout the competition in which one artist per week will be chosen by Songwars' judges to be featured on the Songwars site. "Song of the Week" is entirely separate from the main judging process. A selection for song of the week does not guarantee selection in any category or vice versa.

    ABOUT



    Mike Pinder was the founding member of The Moody Blues (Go Now, Nights in White Satin, and Tuesday Afternoon) in early 1960's. As a Singer/Songwriter Mike wrote many of the Moody Blues songs and won the Ivor Novello award for Social Content for his song "Simple Game". Mike has always supported new artists and has three musician sons, two of whom are also singer songwriters. Mike's vision and passion have resulted in the formation of Songwars.



    Songwars has a strong sense of artistic responsibility to support the development of music from one generation to the next. There is a desire to help new talent refine their art and be validated through that process. For more info about Mike and Songwars, click here

    Judges include legendary musicians, including: Mike Pinder, Brett Tuggle, Stef Burns, Harvey Mandel, Ed Ulibarri, Tony Clarke, Stevie Roseman, Dennis Tenney, John Hernandez, Pat Caddick, David Zycheck, John Edwards, Peppino D'Agostino, Jerry Corbetta, Denny Laine, Alan Koshiyama and Dylan Rowe.     SONGWARS Rules

    Entry Form must be fully filled out. You will receive an entry confirmation by e-mail.

    There is no time limit on song length (we wish to enhance the creative process, not constrain).

    ENTRY FEES: SONGWARS has a multiple entry discount. There is an entry fee of $30 (US) for the first entry and $20 for each additional entry. For example, if you enter one song in one category, the fee is $30. If you enter one song in two categories, the fee is $50. If you enter two songs in the same category (or in different categories), the fee is $50. If you enter three songs in different categories, the fee is $70, etc.

    All entries submitted must be original songs and shall not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties. Songs may have multiple co-writers, but only one name should be designated on the entry form. Contestant shall, by entering, indemnify and hold SONGWARS harmless from and against any claims inconsistent with the foregoing.

    SONGWARS is open to all amateur and professional songwriters and anyone regardless of nationality or origin. Affidavits for winners under 18 years of age at time of award must be countersigned by parent or legal guardian. Employees of SONGWARS, its families, subsidiaries and affiliates are not eligible

    Entries will be screened by SONGWARS, and the finalists will be sent to the judges panel who will select the winners. The judging panel consists of music industry professionals including songwriters, arrangers, producers, engineers, and artistsall under the direction of Mike Pinder. Songs are judged equally on melody, composition, originality, and lyrics. Lyrics must be in English. Production value and quality of performance will not be considered. By participation in the contest, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and by any subsequent published revisions of these rules and by the decisions of the SONGWARS Contest, which are final in all matters relating to the contests. Void where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulation apply.

    All prizes will be awarded to the first name as it appears on the entry form, and division of prizes among co-authors is the responsibility of winners.

    Entry constitutes permission to use winner's name, likeness, and voice for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation.

    Contestant retains all ownership rights to all submitted song(s). SONGWARS will not have any ownership rights to any song(s) submitted.

    SONGWARS reserves the right to change prizes (to be of equal value or greater value) under certain unforeseen circumstances.
