The SoWa Sundays Music Series runs every Sunday* from mid-May through the end of October, along with SoWa Sundays and three large weekly markets in Boston's South End. The season kicks off every year with SoWa Art Walk - a special 2-day event, this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 15th and 16th, 2010. For more information, visit www.sowasundays.com or www.sowaartwalk.com.

At least four artists who submit through Sonicbids will be selected to participate on each SoWa Sundays date. Selected musicians will perform two 40-minute sets in a two hour period between 10am and 4pm. This is an unpaid gig, but musicians are encouraged to sell CD's and other merchandise to the market visitors, which is a fairly funky and art appreciating crowd.

Artists will perform outside for hundreds of shoppers alongside the SoWa Open Market, SoWa Vintage Market and SoWa Food & Produce Market in the heart of the South End of Boston. Each week, the SoWa markets house roughly 200 guest vendors on either end of Thayer Street, along with a permanent group of 120 artists in 80 work studios at 450 Harrison and 40 additional shops, showrooms and contemporary art galleries on along the length of Thayer Street (a pedestrian-only way between Harrison Ave and Albany St).

Artist submissions are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  1. Because this is a one day a week event, they do not have a proper stage, though they have plenty of space.
  2. Sound equipment is not provided. Please bring everything you will need to perform and sell merchandise (including chairs, table and power strip). The only thing they can provide is space, parking and some electricity.
  3. They cannot provide any kind of compensation. Instead, they invite you to sell your merchandise and ask for donations from the people visiting the markets.
  4. They require that all lyrics are family friendly.
  5. SoWa Sundays is an outdoor, rain or shine event. They don't expect you to ruin all of your equipment in the rain, but do ask that you let them know if you won't be able to perform because of weather. In certain instances they might be able to accommodate you indoors if it's raining.
  6. There are some sound restrictions because they are so public. They ask that you keep the volume reasonable for our neighbors and our vendors.
  7. They ask that you fill the better part of 2 hours (with a short break) with your performance.
  8. Keep in mind that SoWa Sundays is an open air market with a fairly mobile crowd. It's a great opportunity, and lots of people come to these markets - unfortunately they can't make any guarantees of tips, crowds or merch sales.
  9. Any genre is great! They'll be asking for at least two musicians each Sunday for two different spaces.
  10. All artists will be asked to sign a simple release.
