South by Southeast

South by Southeast Music is a local, non-profit/charitable organization formed in 2003 by a group of Myrtle Beach, SC area music lovers and educators to preserve and promote American music not usually heard in traditional venues.



The mission is to provide assistance and support to local music education programs, with the goal being to offset some costs associated with the musical education of young people in the South Eastern areas. In this time of budget cuts and strangulation of funding for the arts, the overall goal is to help young people in their pursuit of the joys of music. Recent donations to the Myrtle Beach Middle School Orchestra and Dr. David Bankston's Guitars in the Classroom project are examples of the programs that SXSE has and will continue to support.



South by Southeast's membership is comprised of both local and out-of-town artists and music lovers. With the help of their partner, New South Brewery, SXSE has been able to stage very small, intimate concerts featuring an incredible and vast array of musicians and entertainers. SXSE "music feasts" are staged at various venues every 8 to 10 weeks.



National touring and local artists are welcome. A local draw is not necessary to be booked. National artists are not provided transportation, but lodging and food are provided free of charge. Compensation after lodging is negotiable at the time of booking. Artists in Americana, folk, acoustic, blues, bluegrass and singer/songwriter are accepted.
