Summary

Founded in the mid-90's as an answer to the rash of corporate clubs cropping up throughout the country, The Gig has been a haven for new music for nearly a decade.

Located in the center of one of the world’s most vibrant neighborhoods, The Gig on Melrose fast became an LA mainstay. The club is widely known for its friendly staff and easy-going atmosphere, and was recently named “the most band-friendly venue in all of Los Angeles,” in an industry poll conducted by Music Connection Magazine as well as “outstanding venue” by the LAMA.

With a capacity of almost 200, The Gig showcases many styles of music, including Rock, Pop, Country, Alternative, Indie, Metal, and Punk. Shows are usually booked about 6-8 weeks in advance, but sometimes, on a rare occasion, there are cancellations. There are four band performances a night, every night; 8:30 pm, 9:30 pm, 10:30 pm, and 11:30 pm. Sundays, the first band will start at 7:30 pm. The set length is 40 minutes and bands have 20 minutes between sets to load in/out. All bands will be compensated for their performance and allowed to keep 100% of merchandise sales. In addition, there will be DVDs of the performance available after the show.

Live from the Gig (livefromthegig.com) is the new home of The Gig’s live shows online, broadening exposure for the club and its bands in a way never before imaginable. Performances at The Gig are webcast live to hundreds of viewers. Bands can link to their performances on MySpace or send to friends, fans and promoters. Combining the visual talents of owner Peter O’ Fallon, a renowned television and film director (“Suicide Kings,” “House,” “Blade”), and the quality of sound for which The Gig is known, the club figures to be a prominent part of the music revolution currently taking foot, enabling bands to achieve both a real world and a virtual audience through its efforts.

With acts as diverse as Michelle Branch, Linkin Park, The Calling, Macy Gray, Tom Morello, The Teddybears, Louix XIV, The John Butler Trio and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club who have tramped the stage on their path to superstardom, the Gig is devoted to uncovering and nurturing new talent. Providing the ideal venue for label showcases with three to four half-hour sets each night, many of the city’s managers and A&R representatives look to The Gig to get a feel for where the music scene is headed.

Please note: First time performers at the Gig will be required to book a show on a Sunday-Wednesday and will be asked to presell 30 tickets. This is a one-time requirement.
