Under the Radar mainly covers indie rock and indie pop and is most interested in artists from those genres. Although most of its features are on indie rock bands, Under the Radar also has special subsections in the album reviews section devoted to Americana/alt-country, electronica, hip-hop, jazz, reissues, and singles/EPs. The magazine is also interested in shoegazing, space-rock, and soul groups. The magazine generally does not cover these genres: hardcore, metal, punk, hard rock, pop-punk, mainstream pop, smooth jazz, mainstream country, Classical, blues, and new age.
