About the festival:

Reggae music is an international genre of music that appeals to people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. People from Japan, New Zealand, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, USA and Canada hold annual reggae festivals where the music often incorporates local instruments and fuses with other musical genres. It is evolving creatively and producing local artists where ever it spreads.

The first annual Vancouver Roots Reggae festival will feature Roots reggae artists. This type of reggae is unique and different from the Dance hall reggae. Roots reggae music does not promote violence or denigrate women in fact it promotes peace, love, non violence and spiritual values and social justice. During the first year of operation it will concentrate on hosting events at smaller venues so that it can establish a following and create a reputation with the concert attendees and artists.
