The 2010 Virgin Mobile FreeFest will be held on September 25, 2010 on two stages and a dance tent at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, outside Washington, DC. Confirmed bands include: M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Pavement, T.I., Ludacris, Joan Jett, Thievery Corporation, Matt & Kim, Jimmy Eat World, the Temper Trap, Sleigh Bells, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Yeasayer, Chromeo, Die Antwoord, Modeselektor, Neon Indian and Trombone Shorty.

The winning band of the Virgin Mobile FreeFest Book the Band contest will not only be an opening act for these headliners but the lucky band will receive a $5,000 travel stipend, Gibsonï¿½ Guitar Trophy and Prize Package (valued at $1500), and a ton of great exposure ï¿½ inclusion on the FreeFest website and in the FreeFest pocket program as well as an onsite interview at FreeFest for FreeFest Sessions with Abbey Braden on Virgin Mobile Live.

How it Works

Artists will submit their Sonicbids EPK and upload the specific track theyï¿½d like included in voting during the application process. Please note that if you are a new member signing up for Sonicbids, you will need to complete your Sonicbids EPK after you submit your entry. The elevator pitch, bio, photo and website you add to your Sonicbids account will be used in online voting, along with the song you uploaded when you entered.

1st Round: Initial Round of Voting to Determine Top 20 Bands

All eligible bands who submit an entry will be included in a round of public voting from August 9th ï¿½ August 19th. In addition, the entries will be judged by a panel Virgin Mobile judges, including Virgin Mobile Live DJ Abbey Braden. The Top 20 Bands will be selected based on a combination of the highest number of votes and the scores by the judges.

From the Top 20 Bands, the panel of judges will then select Five Finalists based on originality, professionalism of the recording and overall marketability.

2nd Round: Final Voting for Grand Prize Winner

The Five Finalists will have their music will be posted on the Book the Band voting site for free download from August 23rd ï¿½ 30th. The band with the most downloads will have the opportunity to play at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest, win a $5,000 travel stipend and a Gibson Guitar Trophy and Prize Package.

Please note: In order to be receive the Grand Prize, the winning band must agree to the terms of performance agreements with Virgin Mobile, including right of Virgin Mobile to record the performance and use the winning bandï¿½s content. YOU MAY NOT SUBMIT AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST UNLESS YOU ARE: 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER; A LEGAL RESIDENT OF ONE OF THE 50 UNITED STATES OR D.C.; IN A BAND AT TIME OF ENTRY; AND YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS AS OF CONTEST LAUNCH.

VIRGIN MOBILE USA, L.P. (ï¿½Sponsorï¿½) is offering this Contest (ï¿½Contestï¿½).

1. This Contest is open to legal U.S. residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, who are in a band and are 18 years of age or older (or at least the age of majority in entrantï¿½s state of residence) at time of entry with an active e-mail address as of or around July 26, 2010. The term ï¿½bandï¿½ as used herein shall refer to a music group that: a) performs music; and b) does not currently have an exclusive recording arrangement with any recording label that would render the group incapable of granting the rights that an entrant, Semi-finalist, Finalist or the Grand Prize Winner is required to grant in accordance with these Official Rules. This Contest is void where prohibited. Employees, officers and directors of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, retailers, distributors, wholesalers, and advertising and promotion agencies, and members of the immediate families (defined for these purposes as parents, spouse, children, siblings, grandparents, and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or households (whether related or not) of any of the above are NOT eligible to participate. Proof of eligibility will be required.

2. Contest begins 12:01:01 am Eastern Time (ï¿½ETï¿½) July 27, 2010 and ends at 11:59:59 pm ET on or around August 5, 2010 (the ï¿½Contest Entry Periodï¿½). Limit one entry per band for the entire Contest Entry Period. Only one member of a band may submit an entry on behalf of his/her band, but the names of all members of each band must be listed on the submitted entry form. Each entry submitted will be deemed submitted on behalf of all of the Band Members identified on the official entry form. By submitting an entry, the band member doing so represents and warrants that s/he has received permission to enter the Contest from each member of his/her band listed on the official entry form, and to submit each of their names and the recording(s) of their performance(s) that are included with the submitted entry and that each member meets the eligibility requirements set forth in paragraph 1. The terms ï¿½contestantï¿½ or ï¿½entrantï¿½ as used herein shall refer to each band member (not only to the person who actually submitted the entry on his/her bandï¿½s behalf) and to the band in its entirety. Once an entry has been submitted, the band may not add or remove any members.
