Summary

The Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival is a 4-day foot stomping party in the heart of the Midwest in Lawrence, Kansas. In 2004, Wakarusa burst onto the scene with a diverse and eclectic lineup featuring over 70 artists. The 2004 bill peaked the interest of both devout and casual music fans alike. Fans that made the trip to Wakarusa left with unforgettable stories of the music and the beautiful surroundings of the Lawrence area. This yearÂ’s event will be held June 5-8, 2008.

There are two performance slots reserved for Sonicbids members. Selected artists will be compensated for their performance. All genres accepted. Over the past few years, the festival has hosted over 50 Sonicbids artists.

Wakarusa has quickly established itself as a premiere, grassroots event in the nationwide outdoor music scene. Attracting folks from all 50 U.S. states and several countries, the 2007 event featured over 100+ artists, 7 stages and over 4 days of non-stop music and entertainment. Past performers include Wilco, Umphrey's McGee, String Cheese Incident, North Mississippi Allstars, Gov't Mule, Particle, Ozomatli, Junior Brown, Matisyahu, Neko Case, Son Volt, Widespread Panic, Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips, and Les Claypool and many many more.

Wakarusa differs from other festivals of its kind in that it strives to keep the music at the center of the experience. Although camping, vendors, and many other attractions add to the event, the music is non-stop and at the forefront. Patrons can come for one day or all 4! Last year, more than 15,000 people attended.

Please note: artists have the option to submit to the Waka Winter Classic for an opportunity to win a performance slot through a battle of the bands. If you'd like to apply directly to the Waka Winter Classic, please visit the opportunity page at www.sonicbids.com/wakawinterclassic.
