Downtown Sounds Coffeehouse and Theater, located in Waterville, Maine, is a coffee house style venue for acoustic, folk and other genres. It is looking to book local, regional, or touring solo artists and bands to perform live on available dates; generally September through June. The opera house primarily works with acoustic and folk but also accepts blues, country, and singer/sonqwriters. Artists must be able draw 300-850 for the main stage, with a draw of up to 60 for the coffeehouse studio.


Selected artists receive:

  • Artists will be compensated a negotiable rate.

  • Artists will be provided full sound and lights on the main stage with lights and minimal sound provided in the studio.

The municipally-owned 925-seat Waterville Opera House was, and still is, the largest and most active facility of its kind in central Maine. Over the years the Waterville Opera House has hosted the finest touring performances available. It was also the site for first-run movies. In 1973 the Waterville Opera House Improvement Association was founded. Since then more than $1 million has been raised locally to renovate and upgrade the historic facility. The Waterville Opera House now produces some of the finest regional theater in Maine.

The Waterville Opera House's Studio Theater revives a coffeehouse atmosphere with live folk and acoustic music in downtown Waterville. Some of the most enduring names in folk music play these special evenings.
