Summary
The West Coast Blues n Roots Festival is Western Australia's largest celebration of Blues & Roots music and is the ultimate festival experience. The annual musical extravaganza features 3 stages, offering live music all day and into the night in front of 20,000 fans. The eighth annual West Coast Blues n Roots Festival will take place on Sunday April 17 2011. Selected artists will be compensated $400 payment, plus a playing spot. 1 Sonicbids artist will be selected to perform at The West Coast Blues n Roots Festival./n/nBreakthrough to Blues N Roots is a band competition where the winning band plays in the West Coast Blues N Roots Festival, 2011. 8 local Western Australian acts will be chosen to participate in Breakthrough to Blues n Roots heat and then final. These 8 artists are reserved for Sonicbids artists. Genres accepted include blues, roots, reggae, hip hop, and rock.
Heat 1 is on Thursday 3 March 2011 at the Norfolk Basement Fremantle. Heat 2 is on Thursday 10 March at Clancys Fremantle, with the winning bands from each heat and a wild card chosen by the judges to play the final on Wednesday 23 March at Fremantle Blues n Roots Club at Mojos. The winning Breakthrough band will play at The West Coast Blues n Roots Festival 2011 and receive $400 in compensation.

The festival attracts high profile international, national and local musicians, and incorporates arts projects, free fringe performances around Fremantle, environmental projects and markets and food stalls from around the globe.
Around 40 international, interstate and local acts within the Blues & Roots genre perform. Previous artists include John Fogerty, Buddy Guy, Sinead O'Connor, Don McLean, Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Ozomatli, Angus & Julia Stone, James Brown, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Bo Diddley, Jackson Browne, Bernard Fanning, The Black Keys, Damian "Jr Gong" Marley, John Mayer, Wolfmother, Eric Burdon, John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins, Pete Murray, The Cat Empire, Angelique Kidjo and many more.
