Music empowers, instills confidence, and changes lives. This is something that the band Girl Nowhere firmly believes. In the summer of 2015, best friends Kirstin Mohammed and Emily Racanelli traded in after school jam sessions for studios and stages, forming Girl Nowhere. With a decade of guitar skills behind each of them, it made sense to become an acoustic duo. However, after playing a handful of open mics and recording a demo CD, the two itched for something more action-packed.

Merely a month after their formation, Racanelli swapped to drums and Mohammed traded her acoustic for an electric guitar, making Girl Nowhere a high-energy pop punk group. Since transitioning, the band has been focusing on writing, recording, and playing any venue that will welcome them. They have shared the stage with national touring acts such as Candy Hearts, and will expand their horizons across the East Coast in the spring and summer of 2016.
In between live performances, Girl Nowhere is constantly in the studio making new music. Debut EP “Dead End” [released on February 26, 2016] channels the emotional lyrical depth of artists such as Mayday Parade and Citizen, with familiar musical vibes similar to Knuckle Puck and Neck Deep.

Albeit pulling inspiration from other musicians, Girl Nowhere is determined to stand out from the crowd. Aside from adding a feminine touch to a male-dominated genre, both members are outspoken advocates for mental health. Proof of such is found the songs, as the duo hopes to use their platform to talk about issues that society has deemed taboo.

Whether it is opening their inboxes on social media or sticking around after shows, the band has offered themselves up for anybody who needs a shoulder to lean on. Life may try and convince you otherwise, but you can be the hero of your own story and Girl Nowhere is here to reaffirm it.
