"Kevo Worth the Wait"

St.Louis native Kevo Proves that his next project is worth waiting for with the release of his impressive 5 song Ep “Worth the Wait.” The project carries that St.Louis sound with high energy & bounce that made Future, & Metro Booming blow, with features from Miistro Freeyo, Samone Sherrell, & Lil Mone, each song is a potentially successful single, including my favorite from the playlist “What You Want.” The short tease project is a quick fix while they work on releasing the full length project “King Of Motivation” coming sooner than you may think.Be sure to follow Kevo everywhere for updates, and new music. - TGR MEDIA

"Kevo Doesn’t Let His Content Stray From Who He Is"

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Kevo: It all started in 2009 when my dad and uncle decided to from a rap group called 3rdgree when I was 16 with my cousin Lil Dave.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
Honestly, social media, handing out CDs, and word of mouth right now. I also perform at various schools all over performing and motivating the youth with my friend and mentor Koran Bolden who is a motivational speaker/author.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Content. I don’t use any profanity or derogatory language in my music. So I have to be very creative and stay true to myself in the process. A lot of artists nowadays talk about the same things, so I just choose not to care about what people think.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
It has really got better over the years as far as quality and sound. One thing that hasn’t changed at all is the hate and lack of unity. Once we get that in together, we can make something big happen.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
It seems that everybody is becoming more conscious about what’s going in the world and it’s getting talked about a lot more now. Once I gain a lot more influence, I will begin to bring motivation and positivity to the music industry. To be a part of the change artists should just be who they really are and that would make a big difference.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Keeps god first and focus. Work harder than the hardest worker.

What inspires you to write your next song?
It depends. I could be driving and see something or just be in the studio and catch a vibe.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
Turn on the beat. I let the music speak to me first and then I go in the booth. I come up with a hook and the rest comes to me.

What do you think makes a great song?
Beat, concept, lyrics, emotion, and melody. - Skilly Magazine Online

"St. Louis rapper using music to battle gun violence"

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - At a time when a good majority of rap music promotes guns and violence, one St.Louis artist wants his song to send a very different message. Kevin Yancey's Teddy Bearz song and music video highlights the numerous stuffed toy memorials that mark the spots where young lives were taken by gunfire. Yancey hopes his music will positively influence young people in contrast to other music they are listening to.

"I'm not here to bash anyone's music; but at the same time I understand that the message they're putting out is not creating the right environment to bring change," said Kevin Yancey.

The song goes hand-in-hand with the Better Family Life organization's sign campaign intended to help young people realize guns are not the answer to solving conflict. - Fox 2 News

In 2009, Kevo and  his friend David formed a hip hop group called 3rdgree managed by their fathers'. They began performing all over the St Louis area, also selling thousands of their mixtapes in the streets gaining a fan base and earning credibility. In 2010 3rdgree released their follow up mix ape "Err Song Go Vol.2" selling 10,000 plus copies in the streets ,as well as performing and winning showcases in and out of town. In 2011 Kevo went solo and received recognition from a partner at Capitol Records out of Los Angeles, CA.
