"I Pretend Song Review"

I'm truly impressed by the voice of the singer, she definitely has that distinctive touch in her performance that can make all lyrics equal to a personal trademark, not just this one. I liked the solid shape and the clear contrast of the arrangement, where everything comes balanced together. It's an engaging experience that can be spotted from a thousand, and that makes it simply unforgettable! - Anonymous Listener

Bio

Jenny Rockis is an award winning singer/songwriter whose vocal style has been compared to the power and soul of Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge and John Fogerty.  Her heartache inspired songwriting is "a musical punch in the face" whether rocking an acoustic show on guitar or grooving full band from behind the drum kit. Raw intensity and passion ooze from her lips and fingertips for an addicting explosion of sound in your face and in your speakers!

"You've got soul!" - Lin Brehmer, DJ, 93 WXRT Radio Chicago

"A musical punch in the face!"  Steve Davern, Founder - Chicago Johnny Cash Festival

"When I heard the vocals of Jenny, I was instantly on board...she had the best vocals of the night..."  Peter S. Sakas, Rock Chicago Magazine

"Great voice, great voice!  Oh, really, oh yeah!" –Erich "Mancow" Muller, Radio Personality

Mesmerized by 70’s rock and the musical influence of her family, Jenny Rockis began her career at age 7 by building her own drum set out of TV tray racks, pie tins and clothes hangers. Her parents bought her a shiny new Mickey Mouse drum set to hone her skills and her uncle taught her how to play her first song, “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” by The Hollies.

When her grade school music teacher told her “girls don’t play drums,” she was handed a baritone horn to play in the school band, but continued her love for drumming at home. In high school, she played both baritone and percussion in musicals and marching band, and her rhythmic skills led her to an interest in writing poems and lyrics. Wanting to make the rhymes tangible, she taught herself how to play guitar and transformed into a passionate and powerful singer/songwriter who has been gracing the stage ever since. Initially playing in cover bands and wooing the locals, she now showcases her twang flavored rock as a solo artist; all while moonlighting as a Chicago Police Lieutenant.

Her professional performing experience began in the mid 1990’s and includes the bands, Bumpin’ Fuzz (Rock/Pop Cover band), Johnny Justice & the Southside Railroad (Rock/Pop Cover band), Bubbly Creek (Songwriting, Original Alternative Country Project), and Girl Next Door (Rock/Pop/Country Cover band). Being a veteran of the Chicago Police Department, she has been honored to perform at many charity events for injured police officers and officers killed in the line of duty.
