"Daily Voice News: Jessica Domingo - DIY Music the YouTube Way"

Multi instrumentalist and songwriter Jessica Domingo is a modern day performer who has learned how to take full advantage of technology by employing electronic sounds and digitized music into her songs.

The Seattle native has garnered over 50,000 You Tube subscribers who have played her videos millions of times.

Jessica broke on to the music scene in 2014 with her full length debut album “Just Vibe”.

Since the release of her debut album, Jessica has released two more albums – “Masterpiece” and “Moonplay” – and is fastly approaching the five million views mark for her You Tube videos.

In a recent interview Jessica said that she will be releasing a new single later this month. And while the song itself is ready to go, she hasn’t quite decided on a title for the song. Jessica is also working on some new tunes as she prepares to release a new album some time next year.

An independent artist, Jessica has delved head long into the DIY music business. She found producers for her own music by studying other You Tube videos and serves as her own manager and booking agent.

Along with a new single this months, Jessica will be giving a performance on Revolt TV where she will be performing with a live band.

Jessica is also looking to the future where she hops to do more collaborations with various producers and fellow musicians.

"AXS: Video Premiere for "Wonderland""

Seattle-based alternative R&B artist, Jessica Domingo released her latest EP, Moonplay, last September. She’s premiering her new original single from the EP, “Wonderland,” exclusively with AXS. The song conveys the message of being boundless and engaging freedom. In the song, Jessica urges listeners to “find your own wonderland.”

In a recent press release, Domingo says the single "is ultimately about wandering in your own world, escaping reality, and being free."

Having to maintain all creative control with her work, she released Moonplay EP independently, wrote all the songs and even directed and edited the video for "Echoes." Just in the past six years, Jessica has gained her following mostly through her YouTube channel, which has accumulated well over 5 million views total through her covers of artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and Beyonce. She has gradually introduced her own original songs on YouTube as well, attracting over 57,500 subscribers. "Golden Mixtape: Seattle Songbird Jessica Domingo"

With a voice that travels through the air like butter, Jessica Domingo has managed to impress not only her dedicated YouTube following but many more with her EP Moonplay. A sound album that puts her natural skills center stage, we talked about her artistry as a whole from her heritage to her love of hip-hop to where she’s going with it all.

Kendra: Being a first generation, do you feel you have a little more to prove when it comes to just about every aspect of your life?

Jessica Domingo: Being a first generation didn’t affect my life as much. I didn’t feel like my challenges were significantly different from anyone else’s because my parents were accustomed to the American lifestyle and worked really hard for it. However, being a firstµ generation only motivated me more to make my parents proud as they’ve been my biggest support system.

Kendra: When it comes to your Filipino heritage, does any of that shine in your artistry?

Jessica: I do think my heritage plays a role in my artistry in some ways. I feel like I grew up being supported by my community starting with the videos I posted on YouTube. A lot of listeners are from Manila and as an artist, it inspires me to represent my culture through my music.

Kendra: Starting out more a singer-songwriter, you’ve switched gears a bit with a little sound experimentation. What made you want to head in a somewhat new direction?

Jessica: I could definitely still say that I am a singer/songwriter as I do make sure I’m always a part of the writing process, however, my sound has changed within the years of discovering my own voice and the types of music and sounds I’m into. The new direction came from constantly being inspired by everything around me, whether it’s the influences of music I listen to or the experiences that occur. There’s always something to write about, and with that grows to experimenting different evolutions of me.

Kendra: You do a lot of hip hop covers. Is that the style that got you into music in the first place?

Jessica: I grew up listening to hip-hop and old-school R&B music. Even just being raised in Seattle, the hip-hop scene has always been around and ever since I learned how to play guitar, I would always enjoy making hip-hop/R&B renditions with my own style the most.

Kendra: Now looking ahead, what’s going on with you in the coming months?

Jessica: I’m currently in the works of creating another EP as well as working with several producers outside of my hometown, and growing my YouTube channel.

Kendra: In the video for “Echoes” there is this touching piano playing going on, so if you had to make a mixtape with killer piano pieces in them – what five songs would have to be on it?

Jessica:
“Blessed” – Daniel Caesar
“Godspeed” – Frank Ocean
“Gravity” – Sara Bareilles
“Under the Table” – BANKS
“Meeting Points at 2 AM” – dne - Sunnymenagerie

"Vents: Interview Feature"

Hi Jessica, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you for having me on VENTS! I’ve been doing just fine!

Can you talk to us more about your latest release “Echoes”?
Echoes is a song I wrote from my latest EP “Moonplay”. I also directed/edited the music video with Yoni Goldberg. We collaborated on the idea of simple and minimal visuals to showcase blurs of memories that actually happened in real life.

Tell us about any event in particular inspire you to write this song.
Long distance. I was in a situation where I had to part ways with someone due to them having to move across the country. The song described everything that was going through my head as time kept coming close to having to say my final good bye to this person. This particular event in my life was a bittersweet one and all the emotions spilled out through writing and directing Echoes.

How was the film experience?
It was really chill and exciting. I always like to be a part of directing my stories to make it real. In fact, some of the props that are incorporated in the video were from the person I wrote the song about, such as the flannel that kept showing up in the music video.

I flew down to Los Angeles to film it and we were able to capture some sunset footage on Venice Beach and roamed around the city.

The song comes off your new album Moonplay – what’s the story behind the title?
I remember just wanting a one-word EP title that stuck to me, something different, and something that’s completely made-up and interesting. I was driving late at night last Summer and I remember accumulating all my ideas while figuring out the title to describe all the songs, while also realizing that all my ideas only happen under the moon. I also looked at the songs in a visual perspective and it felt like they belong under a night playlist. The EP became an alter-ego as the songs were written in a way I never thought existed in me. I felt like the moon was responsible of bringing something new out of me, perhaps a different side and that’s why I named my first EP Moonplay.
Tell us about the recording and writing process.

Recording and writing Moonplay EP has been such a relieving process for me. I’ve always wanted to write my own material, even way before I started a YouTube channel making covers of songs. Once I met Jesse Barrera, producer and co-writer of Moonplay EP, I’ve grown so much as an artist since. Finding my sound was one of the biggest obstacles and I felt like being in the studio and writing what I really feel pushed me to my comfort zone.

We wrote the EP together just dabbling with sounds, lyrics, and melodies. I remember coming to the studio empty-handed, only knowing that I wanted to build my sound. Every session was an outlet for me to pour all my feelings and experiences through a microphone.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are covering someone else than when you are writing in your own?
I feel like everything I make has to feel like my own approach.

What made you want to seek for a whole new direction with this record?
I’ve always wanted to advance my art and challenge my abilities as a songwriter using different sounds that felt more like me. Music is an ongoing inspiration and through time and growth, finding my voice has pushed me to a whole new direction.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Everything I observe in myself, people, and personal experiences.
Any plans to hit the road?
Not quite! Still in the works of creating and writing.

What else is happening next in Jessica Domingo’s world?
New music video will be released this week from the Moonplay EP and also releasing more content in the next few months! - RJ Fromenta

"Emily Hearts: Music Monday - Jessica Domingo"

Happy Music Monday! If you’re anything like me then you might spend a lot of time on Youtube, more than regular TV or catchup. Vloggers are the next generation of celebrities and so many young artists and musicians are able to showcase their talents and kickstart their careers without needing managers, agents or record labels to get them off the ground.

One artist who managed to do exactly that is Jessica Domingo, a singer songwriter from Seattle Washington who began uploading videos of her practicing her favourite songs. Her first video was a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinking Bout You” and had millions of views, and from there she uploaded covers from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Gwen Stefani and Sade. Fast forward a couple of years and she’s a touring artist with her second EP Moonplay making waves on Spotify and yes, Youtube.

I’ve picked out her track Echoes, a light and emotional piano ballad that really shows off her beautiful voice. It’s got me going back through her earlier experimental releases and I’m loving what I’m hearing so far!

Take a listen below and Tweet me and let me know what you think.

Happy listening! - Emily Hearts`

"Gadfly Online: Get To Know The Artist: Jessica Domingo"

Jessica Domingo has a large following despite never competing on a nationally broadcasted show like America Idol, a popular path for many artists (like formerly featured artist, Paul McDonald). Instead, she has diverged on a different path that many artists today have taken instead of the now out-of-date television series. Posting her first covers on Youtube in 2011, Domingo has now reached more than two million people, thanks in large part to a Frank Ocean cover you can watch here. In addition, her channel regularly reaches more than 40,000 subscribers. After releasing her first full-length debut album last year, Domingo is set to release another one out this month. Continue reading to learn more about Domingo and her upcoming album, Masterpeice.

Gadfly Online: Can you provide us with some background? Where are you from? What made you pursue a career in music?

Jessica Domingo: I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I always sang when I was young but didn’t do anything with my voice until I posted my first cover in 2011—being only 15 years old led to discovering my own sound. I posted a few videos here and there after receiving a bunch of feedback. It was an experimental process for me because I just sang songs I liked and it unexpectedly drew a crowd. Then from continuously being around YouTube, I decided to write my own music. In 2014, I finally released my full-length debut album, Just Vibe and even created my own music videos. The support my fans have given me as I’ve grown as an artist, was the reason I wanted to pursue a career in music, and I’m truly thankful for that.

GO: How would you characterize your music? Do you fit into a stock genre or create a fusion of genres?

JD: I would characterize my music as Indie-R&B/Folk/Acoustic/Pop/Alternative.

GO: Who would you cite as your musical influence?

JD: Amy Winehouse, Aaliyah, Corrine Bailey Rae, John Mayer, and Colbie Caillat.

GO: What project are you promoting right now? How does this fit into your overall career arc?

JD: I will be releasing my debut EP next month titled, Masterpiece. It’s probably the most pop I’ve ever done before; a lot of the songs were a little different (in a good way) because I was able to step out of my comfort zone in the booth. Masterpiece is an inspiring album that many will be able to relate to. The experience working with Mikal Blue has been a blast, and I am excited about the release!

GO: What do you hope to communicate to listeners through your music? What does music mean to you?

JD: I hope that my listeners feel a sense of inspiration through my music. Simply receiving support about the affect people have when listening to my music is the greatest feeling ever and gives me the drive to keep at it.

GO: What can we expect from you in the future?

JD: I will be posting more YouTube videos soon and will be heading down to San Diego to start a new record.

GO: Whom is your music geared towards? How is it impacting them? In other words, why should we listen to your music and message?

My music is geared towards anyone; I feel like people should listen to my music simply to get inspired and to understand feelings that we all could relate to. There are different messages portrayed in my songs and “Masterpiece” happens to be the most uplifting. I hope when people listen to it, they get a sense of positivity and motivation. - Chanhong Luu

"Music Junkie Press: YouTube star Jessica Domingo releases EP “Masterpiece” with more to come."

YouTube has been a pathway for success for growing numbers of artists, especially musical artists. New bands and singer/songwriters can build fan bases of thousands without recording a single album or EP or even appearing live anywhere but in their bedrooms. Word of mouth and viral social media do the work of radio spins and PR agents and magazines. Some artists pursue this option very deliberately, executing a video strategy with planned precision. This is not the case for the YouTube phenomenon, Jessica Domingo.

Singing and performing since she was 12 and playing the piano since she was 4, Seattle-based Domingo posted her versions of cover songs on YouTube because she wanted to share her music with friends and it was fun – a way to do what she loved. She was blown away when her cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You” pulled in over 2 million YouTube views and other covers pulled in 10’s and 100’s of thousands of views — all while she was a sophomore in high school. It didn’t take her long to understand that she had something special and to build on it.

The something special is a sultry, sensual voice that she can deliver with a silver lining of joyfulness – really quite extraordinary. This very, very busy 17-year old has produced two albums and just recently put out an EP, Masterpiece, that shows every bit of the love that she and her producer, the multi-platinum Grammy award-winner Mikal Blue, spent two years lavishing on it at Revolver Recordings in Los Angeles.

The EP is five exquisite songs whose musical form and emotional diversity range wide, but are carefully curated to flow seamlessly, held together by a voice that defies comparison. The title song, “Masterpiece”, seduces you with an interior voice of sultry introspection carried on a fast-picked bass and distance clap beats and then rises in pure tones exuding determination and power, emphasized by backing vocals. A masterpiece for sure, but not the only one.

But all is not exultation on Masterpiece, as she slides into the dark, cinematic “Everything Was Not enough”, burdened with more emotional baggage that a 17-year old could possibly carry. But she does, her voiced lowered an octave and glowing deep crimson against a gentle guitar and organ tapestry as she sings her frustration with the object of her heartbreak. The chorus is the addictive and the song rides a difficult line between pain and relief few achieve.

A ray of sunshine evaporates the dark tapestry of “Everything Was Not Enough” in the next song, “Music”, a skipping-down-the-sidewalk kind of melody, riding on the rainbows of the first stages of love. The tempo stays upbeat but the emotional index notches up as she moves onto “Last Night”. Slickly produced and delivered, it follows a comfortable pop format, but does it well by combining Domingo’s hot caramel voice with multiple layers of instruments modulated for effect and moved along briskly by a perfectly played high note touch on the snare drum.

Domingo returns to her first love, the ukulele, to wrap up Masterpiece with “We Could Be Anything” a light-hearted tune sung with a smile and a twinkle while she tells us of our future – anything we want to be. You can indeed be anything when you are 17, talented, lovely and full of determination and stand out songs. Domingo is headed back into the studio along with her tour and I suspect more masterpieces will be the result.

"All Access Music: Seattle-Based Singer JESSICA DOMINGO Discusses How She Has Musicially Grown, Her Biggest Inspirations and More!"

Meet the Seattle-based Alternative R&B/Pop artist Jessica Domingo.
She came out with a new EP Moonplay last year and she currently has over 55k subscribers and videos with hundreds of thousands, and even millions of views.

Thanks for your time today! How has 2017 been treating you? Musically, did you approach this year any differently then you did last year?

Thank you for having me! This year I’ve mainly been learning how the music business works and self-managing, releasing, booking, and promoting is a huge learning experience. It’s different from last year because I actually now have the time to “DIY” as a full-time artist, and since then, I’m always be finding ways to push myself and my music.

Where does this interview find you today? Is there music playing in the background? If so, what is it? What kind of music do you listen to when you are working? What music gets you instantly out of a bad mood?

I’m one of those people that have to sit down at my desk with no distraction and no music in order to be fully attentive to an interview or even just to respond to people via Internet or text! However, I can definitely listen to some relaxing instrumental music whether it’s just guitar or a jazz cafe playlist. When I’m working on visual projects or seeking inspiration, I like to listen to R&B classics or a chill and mellow playlist. I always find hidden gems through Spotify/YouTube/SoundCloud.
The music that instantly gets me out of a bad mood, especially as of recently is actually yoga music. I always feel extremely relaxed and calmed when I listen to uplifting yoga/meditation music.

Growing up, have you always wanted to be a musician? Can you recall your earliest musical memory?

Yes! I’ve always wanted to be a musician, but of course, as a kid I had many, many aspirations. My earliest musical memory was singing karaoke during the celebrations that my family would throw in our basement. My dad had a machine and would always let my cousins and I choose our favorite songs and I just remember being so excited to look through the karaoke book.

If you weren’t a musician today, what else could you see yourself doing?

There are either 2 things that are a huge possibility: Something in film – whether it’s a director or editor because that is something I’ve been doing for fun since I owned a camera at 11 years old OR something in business – owning some sort of company (maybe even in the food industry because I’m a huge foodie!).

So how do you think Seattle has affected who you are as a musician and the art that you create?
I think Seattle has affected me by its diversity of music with so many great artists. We definitely have the classic alternative rock/grunge scene going on with the influences of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters. Then we have a few indie bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, The Head and the Heart, and Minus the Bear.

My ears have been blessed with good music all around my city. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve found my sound through being open to listening to different music and making it my own.

How do you think you have grown as a musician since you released your EP “Moonplay” last September? What has remained the same? Do you think if you went into the studio today to record an EP, it would be similar or completely different to “Moonplay”?

Ever since I released Moonplay, I feel like I’ve grown so much during the process and to be honest, I feel like nothing remained the same since then. The whole project was about finding my sound with my producer, Jesse Barrera. I came into the studio with an idea of how I wanted my music to feel and sound, but I had yet to find my voice. Everything was trial and error but it worked out exactly how I wanted it to. Working in the JB cave helped me feel music in a different perspective. It made me look at myself in a new way as an artist as well because I began to feel comfortable about writing what I actually feel and experience. The EP still has vague interpretations, but it was enough for me to unveil my emotions.

If I were to be in a studio today to record an EP, I think it would depend on what producer I work with because everything always changes but of course, it would still have to feel like me. I think Moonplay EP has so many diverse elements that could still feel like a sister of one of the songs. As of lately, I have been definitely open to more sounds though.

Are you currently working on new music? When do you hope to release new songs?

Yes! I am currently working on new music. I plan to release a single sometime in September and a whole new project next year.

What do you think of social media these days and using it to stay connected to fans? Are you good about updating all your sites?
I think it’s an important platform for artists to stay connected to fans especially if they’re from another timezone and if you’re not on tour.

I’m pretty consistent with my updates, I must say.

What are your plans for the rest of the summer? Do you have any tour dates currently lined up?

I plan on uploading more on YouTube. Unfortunately, no tour dates quite yet!

Who are some of your very favorite artists or rather, what musicians have continued to inspire you and your music? What musicians would you absolutely love to work with in the future?

Amy Winehouse, Aaliyah, Sade, and Norah Jones are musicians that I’ve always admired since day 1. A musician I would love to work with in the future would have to be Kendrick Lamar.

What do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people continue to take away from your songs?

My music could be interpreted in any way they personally feel. There’s not really a true message but I do hope it’s something they can relate to.

What advice would you give to someone just getting started on this music path? Or even to someone young that is thinking of becoming a musician one day?

Be your own biggest supporter. To always be there for themselves. Your own confidence, beliefs, and self love will get you to become anything you want to be. - Leah Brungardt

"Artist View Blog: Extended Plays | Jessica Domingo"

I am a huge fan of pretty voices and even prettier songs. They are my lullabies. My calm in the chaos of life. I seek them out with a vengeance and play them over and over until they become a part of me. Jessica Domingo is my new favorite find and her song Wonderland has been on repeat for the past couple days. Her sultry, sexy vocals sing me to a quieter place. There is almost a cosmic feel to her music. Her beauty only adds to the talent that is pouring from her lips.

This song has everything. Stunning visuals laid upon your ears…and I’m not even talking about the video yet. There is a magic to her voice. A life to her sound. It takes you away to a special place where the only thing that matters is the music. This track is like a beautiful dream. It leaves you wanting to return. I truly believe that this is only the beginning of her journey. - Lizzy Evenson

"Music Friday: Jessica Domingo moves from YouTube fame to the music biz"

Jessica Domingo is a phenomenon by any standard. At 17 she has dominated YouTube music videos with 2 million views, released two EP’s and done radio and TV shows - a tiptoe into the biz while still a high school socphmore. This week she takes that fame with her and steps full on into the music biz with the release of her second full length album. My prediction is that the online audience will be right there with her – buying the album, buying the tickets and demanding more. That is not a hard prediction to make, given her history, determination and talent.

Domingo grew up listening to music – all different kinds.. From exploring her mom’s old collection of albums, to listening to her dad’s favorite radio stations and being inspired by a variety of genres, she started to discover her own taste in music. She began piano lessons at age 5 and took up guitar at age 12 and she also began performing in public. One of her fondest memories is performing at a café as part of a vocal workshop she belonged to. “That’s when I discovered my voice,” she explains. “It was fun being onstage, but also nerve wracking at first. I was still learning what I was doing, but then grew to love performing.” When you see her, it shows.

Domingo received a significant career assist when she met Seattle-based producer Don Quijano, who was by her side at every performance, taught her guitar, guided her through the music industry and helped her onstage and in the studio. The pair’s collaboration resulted in the Take A Chance EP. She then spent two years recording the next CD, Just Vibe – produced by Dylan Fant of Seattle’s One Shot Studio – to get it just right. The results are impressive, both for the range of her writing and the emotional resonance of her performances. The album’s 11 tracks have a natural, largely acoustic warmth and intimacy far beyond her scant years.

The experience of recording Just Vibe helped her reach a new level of motivation about her work. “It was the first song I recorded for the album,” she recalls. “It was late at night when I wrote it; I came into the booth and just played my ukulele, and I had no idea what to expect. Then a week later, I came back in and re-listened to the final song ‘Knocks Me Off My Feet,’ and I instantly had a flow of ideas for what I wanted for my album – it had come alive in the recording. Somehow she balance school, life performances, YouTube tapings and the studio to finish it the way she wanted

She also entered competitions such as Asian American Singing Idol, the Seattle Filipino community’s Pista Singing Idol, and the Filipino-Canadian PNT TV5 Singing Idol, where she placed in the top three in each contest. In August 2014, Jessica completed a solo tour of the West Coast. All six shows were played to a packed house. In addition to the tour, Jessica was invited to the YouTube Space Headquarters to film, a rare opportunity offered only to the YouTubers who have over 10,000 subscribers. Jessica got qualified and accepted by Vevo to have her own channel now.

Jessica’s EP, Masterpiece, was produced with multi-platinum Grammy award-winning producer Mikal Blue at Revolver Recordings in Los Angeles. Each song will be released each month of the last quarter of the year, including the release of her original Christmas song, “I Can’t Wait For Christmas.” No rest for the young and weary, she is writing and recording more music and self-producing her own music videos. And talking to us about the future on Music FridayLive! - Patrick O'Heffernan

"Music Existence: Music Video | Jessica Domingo - Wonderland"

Based in Seattle, Washington, R&B alternative artist Jessica Domingo is back with a single from her upcoming EP, Moonplay.

At a young age, Jessica began her career on YouTube, covering everyone’s favourites Frank Ocean, The Weekend, Drake and Beyonce, accumulating over 5 million total views and 58K unique subscribers. Claiming to have had a lifelong passion to perform, Jessica learned to play the drums, piano and guitar at just 5 years old, something that translates well within the pristine and thought-out composition of her music.

Alongside fan favourites “Sleep” and “F.N.S”, “Wonderland” is also built upon an unnatural, electronic sound molded into hectic melodies that make the track stand out further when a fuller sound is introduced in the chorus. Domingo’s voice resembles many popular in the music scene right now; a feminine slur suited for its place among indie, rock and any experimental sound these days.

“By combining and redefining established genres of music and discovering her very own sound, Jessica is on track to lead a new sonic revolution in writing Moonplay”, which will be released independently by the artist.

The music video showcases the visual aesthetic to the music she creates with a colorful intensity, showing a somewhat bland palette of pastel blues in the middle of nowhere, to bursting reds, blues and oranges that compliment the overall atmosphere as the track fades in and out.

Though the sound somewhat overpowers Jessica in some verses, naturally, the track comes to a buildup in which we really see confidence in Jessica’s vocals coming to the forefront, and again in the final scene of the video that brings stronger vocals near the end, an almost rap piece combined with Jessica seen holding smoke bombs and the use of shadows that made this track 100% more trippy.

jessica-domingo-400Listening to her new release, “Masterpiece”, Jessica Domingo simultaneously evokes all great singers and yet, she’s totally original. Her voice is sultry, her lyrics are just colorful and profound, and unlike a lot of other singers, she’s not afraid to allow tons of contrasting emotion run through her vocals at any one time. Whether her voice is naked or drenched in harmony, she’s absolutely stunning.

Ethereal, beautiful music, with a blending of exotic melodies, world music-style compositions, pop and R&B all blend into Jessica Domingo’s evocative style. A nearly narrative singing style with a comfortable tone and timbre showcases Jessica’s late night lounge appeal just as much as it exults her pop chart and club appeal. The truth is she has a crossover sound that could truly flourish in many genres.

Like a mystical musical sprite from another universe, Jessica Domingo casts a spell with “Masterpiece” that is both a wonder and a treasured gift. It doesn’t fit in the box of any musical genre. It cleverly covers a wide range of musical styles which is a testament to Jessica’s artistry. She is unique, soulful, extremely talented, sincere-sounding and beautiful to boot!

"Hollywood Progressive: YouTube Star Jessica Domingo Releases “Masterpiece”"

Jessica DomingoThe EP is five exquisite songs whose musical form and emotional diversity range wide, but are carefully curated to flow seamlessly, held together by a voice that defies comparison.

- Patrick O'Heffernan

"This Is The Latest: Review | Jessica Domingo - 'Moonplay' EP"

Jessica Domingo is a Seattle-based alternative R&B/pop artist who in the past few months in particular has seen her following across social media platforms rocket exponentially, and she’s currently riding high on a wave of success thanks to her latest EP, Moonplay.

Starting things off with the rather subdued “Sleep” – with its stripped back instrumentation – might not have been Domingo’s best idea but the track does showcase her smooth and soulful vocal which alone makes the song worthy of repeat listens.

“No Good” follows along a similar path, meaning the two songs at times sound almost like copies of one another, but “F.N.S.” picks things up somewhat and gets the collection on a much more stable path (metaphorically speaking at least). “Electrical Desire” meanwhile has a slow-burn of a toe-tapping rhythm and once again it’s Domingo’s vocal that makes the track shine.

The ballad “Echoes” is undoubtedly the stand-out number on the EP and addresses first-hand the many difficulties that can come from and with long-distance relationships. It’s a raw and honest account of a hard time in Domingo’s own life and she should be duly credited for being brave enough to write about the experience and share it with the world.

Closing number “Wonderland” could have easily been missed off the collection and it’s inclusion means the EP ends on a rather demure note. The vocal is breathy, almost lost at times under the instrumentation, and while it might work as a track to unwind to after a difficult day, ultimately, it’s the weakest song on the collection and makes for a somewhat disappointing end to the latest piece of work from a talented artist.
