Ka'Ra Kersey

If Woodstock was a singer, she would sound like Ka’Ra Kersey’s Junkyard Mixtape. Kersey is an Oakland based vocalist whose psychedelic sound is unfamilar on so many levels, yet, it’s hard to pause her mixtape. She describes her latest album as being, “created through the idea of reusing/recycling old items into new gems.”

Junkyard is definitely a gem hidden in a musical landfill. At first listen, you may be caught off guard and tempted to disregard it, but this project is worth a listen. Ka’Ra Kersey voice is fun and inviting, but don’t let that fool you because her lyrics will sting you as she sings as about the painful act of bullying in the track “Plastic Bullies.”

She sings, “Bitch i’ll cut you in your sleep/You’ll never know it was me because you’re dead.”

Standout tracks include: “Guns of Oakland” and “Plastic Bullies.” Ka’Ra Kersey’s eight-track album is a dissimilar project, but thankfully it works for the artist and the lovers of her music. - so gutsy

A couple things I love about having a blog is that I get to share music and talk about the sh*t that interest me. I definitely wanted to take the time to post this new music from the indie Bay Area Queen and rising star Ka’ra Kersey. I’ve been a fan for a while and I love exposing people to her soulful eclectic sound. The young goddess has been hard a work self recording and completing her EP, raising her baby boy, organizing with artists in her community and singing to plants.
