Kent Lee

From the playwright, Shakespeare to the fictional Forrest Gump, many have attempted to explain the complexity of life with a simple, yet powerful analogy.  Many would agree that the various correlations succeed as a collective; and those that have experienced life’s trials and tribulations would submit “life is a fight” to this co-op of understanding.  After surviving one of the most difficult obstacles in his life, Kent Lee not only realized that life is a “fight”, but one must possess “F. I. G. H. T.” to rise as a champion from life’s many valleys.  F. I. G. H. T.:  Faith in GOD’s Healing Truth.  This debut project invites listeners into the heart and mind of an ambitious man with a dream and destiny.  Faced with opposition, he realizes that his success is contingent upon his absolute faith and trust in JESUS CHRIST. 

Kent Lee begins this musical journey with the question of why negative decisions initially provide positive feelings in the pensive ballad, Carry Me. Lee continues the journey by encouraging ones to not give up on JESUS (D. G. U. O. J.), illustrating a story of love and sacrifice(Kimberly), posing a powerful inquiry of importance (One Question), and reminding the world that resilience and determination are vital elements of success (Keepin’ On).  Kent Lee then shows bravado and ample confidence as he vigorously decrees that “I ain’t walking alone; I’m locked into my zone; I tell you, GOD is so good He’s bad to the bone” (Ambition, Side A).  Yet this decree is quickly challenged by Kent’s very own conscience as he passionately asks, “When is enough, enough; passion desire lust; devil gon’ call my bluff; wanna’ kill all of us; am I at fault for this; I’m so ambitious” (Ambition, Side B). In Lee 51, Kent provides a transparent view into the contrite heart of the aforesaid man with a dream and destiny.  If this project were an epic battle scene at the end of a “Rocky-esque” film, Lee 51 would be the period of the fight where various antagonists seem to have the upper hand, and Stronger would be the audiences’ realization that the protagonist is not yet “out for the count”.  In the end, Kent Lee stands victorious and proudly proclaims “the LORD has got my back” (Just Another Day).  One ends this journey understanding that despite his shortcomings, Kent Lee is committed to CHRIST, and is determined to F. I. G. H. T.

Musically, Kent Lee provides a melting pot of Soul, Rock, and Hip Hop.  Gospel is the fire that cooks the three elements and creates an auditory full course meal.  From the bluesy guitar solo in Carry Me to the synth bass groove of Just Another Day, Kent Lee attempts to give listeners from all walks of life something that is simultaneously appetizing and nourishing.
