"Kim Joyce"

If you were to ask her in high school what she wanted to do with her life, she never would have mentioned music. Joyce says she always wanted to be in the WNBA and never thought she would be an artist.
“The WNBA was always it for me and then I thought, ‘Maybe this isn’t what I want to do,’” Joyce said. “It was hard to start over. There were no coaches recruiting me. Not too many people go to open mic nights trying to find talent, but anything is possible.”
Making the transition from basketball to music was difficult, but Joyce had learned from her days at OSU never to give up. It was the discipline Joyce learned on the court that she says has helped her to get her music career started.” - THE LANTERN

"Kim Joyce"

“A former Lady Buckeye who played under the name Kim Wilburn, Joyce was named the Big Ten Player of the Year for 2006 after leading the conference in steals three out of her
four years on the OSU team. She’s
just released a CD called Eleven that showcases her talent as an R&B singer.
Among its songs are “Welcome to My Club” and “Head Games,” which sound like they were produced by Lil Jon and Timbaland—to the point that they even take vocal samples from Jon and Tim. But the credits say Royal P and B-Banga. “Stripper Pole” pairs Joyce with former Ludacris affili- ate Shawnna.
While the album is polished and proves that Joyce can sing, it comes across as a simulated scrimmage designed to show how Joyce would sound if she were given the big-league opportunities of a Keshia Chante.” - THE OTHER PAPER

KIM JOYCE

Every once in a while you've got to recreate yourself. Just ask singer-songwriter Kim Joyce. During her college years at Ohio State she played a prominent role on the women's basketball team and was a stellar student in the university's economics program. But after graduation she had a change of heart – or rather, her heart changed her. Joyce put aside her degree, packed her bags and moved to Atlanta to pursue her true passion: music.

“Music made me feel something new,” she explained. “I could touch and connect with other people in a new way. I was becoming more free. It definitely was a calling.”

Relocating to A-Town proved to be a good move for the acoustic R&B/soul artist. She's released one full length album called Eleven, two EPs, and is on course to releasing her third, titled Earth. An effort that'll feature her viral hit “Crowd Pleaser” – a track that's garnered over 130k views on YouTube – the EP is a culmination of past influences ranging from childhood to present day.

Raised in Detroit, music has always been a major component to Joyce's life. As a child she sung regularly at her father's Baptist church, and grew up on a steady diet of gospel hymns and jazz. Even with basketball at the forefront of her life at OSU, she managed to join an alternative hip hop group called La Quest. Earth is the EP that ties everything together.

Acoustic guitars, hip hop-infused beats, soulful vocals with a powerful message, Earth is a self-produced offering that's bold and audacious. It's old school Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu meets contemporary singer-songwriters. The emphasis of the record isn't based on an image or a superficial appearance, but on the songcraft itself – Joyce's personal lyrics layered with metaphors and politically-charged undertones.

“I remember this saying: Leave everyone you meet with something good, or give them something, even if its a smile. Well, I take that approach with my music. I feel like you're gonna take away and get something good out of it. Whether its good music that speaks to you, a great show… or how I'm so 'fuck them, imma live this life my way'. You're gonna take away the most beautiful parts of me intended to give peace and love.”

Kim Joyce's new EP, Earth, is expected out this summer. Her forthcoming track "Do Dat Dare" will be the lead single off the record. She's currently planning a North American tour for 2018, and is available for interviews upon request. Email booking@kimjoycemusic.com for booking & press inquiries.
