About

Kingston’s Skeleton Park neighbourhood has for 14 years been the hub of a community festival which began with a one-day outdoor music event and now extends to other sites in the city over a longer time span. “Skeleton Park” is the name given colloquially to McBurney Park, a beautiful site with towering mature trees, a large playground, and a wide expanse of lawn where we run two music stages, showcase local arts organizations and artists, and offer a wide range of fun activities for families and children. The park owes its nickname to the fact that the park was built on a 19th century graveyard which remains underfoot even though the grave markers have long since been removed.

What began as a volunteer-run, community festival has made many transitions over the years. From 2013-2015, the Skeleton Park Arts Festival was produced by the Kingston Arts Council. In 2016, the KAC is working with a new organization, Skeleton Park Arts, to co-produce the festival and transition to the 2017 events which will be entirely produced by SPA.
