"On her live performance"

"CD Review - The Season"

Laura Marie's new disc is “The Season.” Produced by guitar ace Jake Owen, and featuring a staff of first-call San Antonio/Central Texas musicians, “The Season” is a beautiful showcase for her words and voice. And the music, including Owen's guitar work, is as complementary as music gets.

Laura Marie is a thoughtful writer, a smart writer, the kind of wordsmith who doesn't toss off lyrics just because they rhyme. The songs on “The Season” range from folk/rock to folk with an indie edge. Songs such as “Dark Horse,” “Long Slow Burn,” “We Are Liars,” “Angel, Please” and “Babylon” alternately provoke thought and soothe souls. - Express News, Jim Beal

"CD Review - Drawn"

Laura Marie has taught and studied music, but she's at her best when she's performing the music she writes. The veteran of the band Sofa Kingdom/Things Between has a new CD, "Drawn."…
Laura Marie makes an engaging brand of pop/folk with rock roots. Influenced by an array of people from the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde to songwriter/singer Carole King, Laura Marie brings it all together so first-class writing and top-flight music dovetail…
"Drawn," produced by Mack Damon, features excellent songs including "Too Deep," "Ever Since" and "Surface," written or co-written by Laura Marie and played by a cast of talented local musicians. - Express News, Jim Beal

"Skope Magazine"

Sure, there’s a ton of singer/songwriters on the radio today, but Laura Marie separates herself from that crowded pack with strong songwriting and an outstanding voice. With talent as big as Texas itself, this an artist that is deserving of your attention. - Joseph A. Italiano

"Americana Music Times"

Laura Marie captures the most intimate details of the human condition and transforms them into a magnificent soundtrack of life. - Steve Circeo

"Jivewired Review"

It is the injection of pop sensibilities that is the difference maker on this album. Instead of relying solely on jangly folk-rock and uptempo Americana, Laura Marie continues opening up her music as she has since her work with Jake Owen on their Threadbare collaboration EP. On The Season, the two add slightly more emphasis on rhythmic texture works, creating an accordant but unrestricted atmosphere that holds throughout the record. The result is an effort that is more engaging, more artfully familiar and indelible in comfort. It's a great listen cover-to-cover and should be an immediate add to your music library. It is available starting today on Laura's website and at Bandcamp. - Michael Canter

"BEHIND THE CURTAIN - knowshi.com"

THE SEASON is an album with a fiercely beating heart...Laura blesses us with 12 tracks of strong vocals and even stronger lyrics. Her songwriting skill is what impresses me the most this time around - Mut Asheru

"CD Review"

Laura Marie helped me reach my conclusion. Her album, “Drawn” is an ode to soul-searching
experiences. If I had to give her a genre (which I loath doing) would be pop-acoustic-folk. Yeah I
just made up a category. Check for the bin title next time to go to a record shop. Not many of
those left around, but that’s another article. Laura’s sweet, strong and clear vocals add dimension
and life to tunes like “Too Deep” and “Wait”.

"Laura Marie: Drawn"

Even though the music on Drawn stays true to Laura Marie's fairly lean folk-pop sound, this record sounds huge.

But, then, I'm coming to expect that from five-time Grammy-nominated producer Mack Damon — layers, gently understated, easter eggs for the attentive listener. Under Damon's magical aegis, Drawn spins like Laura Marie's coming out party, the start of her solo adventure into the real world. "Ever Since" describes a love that never happened. "Good Enough" talks about a person coming to terms with her own imperfections. "Surface" describes a woman yearning for motherhood. These are mature themes, and Laura's songwriting is strong enough to bring them to life. San Antonio's Laura Marie is a star in the making, and this record, Drawn, has the power to be that starmaker.

"Look & Listen: Welcome to the silky sound of Laura Marie"

Look & Listen: Welcome to the silky sound of Laura Marie
“I never really thought I was that great of a singer. I was really pretty shy about it. And I had a tough time with that."

She is: Laura Marie

Her sound: Alternative acoustic pop (think Natalie Merchant or Aimee Mann)

Her words: “I never really thought I was that great of a singer. I was really pretty shy about it. And I had a tough time with that,” said the singer/songwriter with the silky voice. “But I loved to write music and eventually decided I had to get over the stage-fright thing and actually start looking at the audience.”

Her records: Drawn (2007)

Where to see her: She'll be at Casa Chiapas in Southtown in late April and early May and will begin playing regularly this summer with her backing band, which includes guitar hotshot Jake Owen.

The Web: lauramariemusic.com, myspace.com/lauramarie

The 210 take: The veteran of Things Between/Sofa Kingdom shares thoughtful, earnest pop-folk on her first solo album, which took a few years to record — “I had to deliver a baby somewhere between the fifth and sixth song, I don't remember which,” said the mother of two. The result is a delicately crafted collage of stories of human relationships. Also cool: Laura Marie is a big advocate of San Antonio music and will host a new Internet radio show, “The Sound of It in S.A.,” giving a songwriter's take on local bands. Texas singer songwriter/activist Laura Marie pulls together pop, folk and poetic influences to color her deeply introspective lyrics about truth, life and love.

Laura Marie's message to the world exists on a plane the reaches far beyond music, but thankfully she is one of those writers gifted enough to focus the roller-coaster of the human condition into song. Her latest release, The Season, is a reflection on unconditional love and resolution planted firmly in the singer-songwriter genre. Laura Marie offers some peace within the chaos of life through music, both for herself and as an offering to the world.

The San Antonio native grew up steeped in poetry and music, earning her degree in music education and paying her dues in bands in Central Texas and beyond. There have been awards and accolades since (she won the OurStage Texas Lilith Fair Competition in 2010 and was a Regional Finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest), and audiences are continually drawn in to Laura Maries performances because of her honesty and passion. David Crabb from the Austin Acoustical Cafe noted, "Laura Marie captured the hearts of our audience with her energy, and she warmed the stage and the room with her talented performance.

The Season was recorded with longtime friend and sideman Jake Owen, whose credits as a producer and sideman include The BoDeans, Goldspot, and Sahara Smith. The project was originally going to be an EP, but the process went so well they turned it into a 12 track full-length project. The Season brings home the truth that there is growth from struggle, and the theme of moving from darkness to light permeates the album. Laura Maries reminder throughout is that, We are made to love....we collapse when we forget its about love. This is a connection everything shares...it applies globally all the way down to the cellular level. The Season sings this message loud and clear both musically and lyrically; I hope this album gives people excuses to love....what else are we made for?

IN THEIR WORDS...

"Laura Marie captured the hearts of our audience with her energetic performance. She warmed the stage and the room with her talent and songwriting."
- Austin Acoustical Cafe

"Laura Marie's music is a true delight. Her lyrics are honest and memorable. Our audience was captivated by her heart-warming performance."
-Riff House Concerts

"San Antonio-based pop/folk artist Laura Marie writes songs that non-musicians dream of writing. The lyrics will personally touch the listener as if the songs were written just for them. Common life experiences are turned into remarkable tunes that address real issues..."
-Joseph A Italiano, Skope Magazine
