"Rapsody Real Talk"

The first Rapsody Interview is here! On March 21 Rapsody reporter Hyf Gypsy Sun had a moment to sit with Toronto rapper Lex Leosis before her feature performance. - Fly Poets Society

"Live From The Underground News"

Lex Leosis keeps Shining on “The Villian”. A couple months back, when I first discovered Lex Leosis courtesy of the brilliant TMR, I immediately declared her a “Diamond in the Underground.” Back then, I saw a level of passion, dedication, and creativity in Lex that blew me away, and she brings all of that to her latest video drop, “The Villian.” If you missed the chance to meet Lex at MULA, get to know her now on this dope cut. - Teambackpack

"Diamond in the Underground"

Diamond in the Underground: Lex Leosis
(In this section of “Live From the Underground, I’ll share one underground artist every week who is shining hard but hasn’t obtained a huge fanbase yet.) I first learned about this talented MC after reading the homie Raymond’s write-up of an interview he did with Lex, and I couldn’t be happier that I did. In Raymond’s interview with Ms. Leosis, she opens up about the struggle of breaking into the industry, and humbly talks about the reality of working a second job and grinding hard in the name of art. I won’t steal all of that piece’s thunder (GO READ IT NOW IT’S DOPE) but will note that getting struck by Lex’s incredibly humility and drive was a perfect introduction to the young rapper. You can expect to see Lex Leosis putting out some dope new material soon, and look for her at this year’s MULA festivities. While Lex doesn’t have a huge discography under her belt yet, I am confident betting on her early as a diamond that will continue to shine in the underground for a long time to come. That kind of humbleness and drive pays off. Bobby Schmurdas of the world, take note. - Teambackpack

"Watch An International Women’s Day Cypher From Four Rising Toronto Rappers"

All eyes are on Toronto right now, but it seems like dudes get most of the rap shine, despite women being integral to the city's hip-hop history. To counter that perception, Team Backpack rounded up four rising Toronto rappers for a cypher timed to International Women's Day.

In the video above, Keysha Freshh, Lex Leosis, Haviah Mighty and pHoenix Pagliacci gather around a mic, bigging each other up and rapping over a blistering loop by Little Sister (a semi-finalist in last year's Battle of the Beatmakers competition). They get fun with it, referencing this crucial scene from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and taking light swipes at their male peers while also touching on crucial feminist issues like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's gender-balanced cabinet and the death of Sandra Bland. "Who said the 6 god couldn't be a woman in some high-tops?" Word. - The Fader

"Check TeamBackPack’s Toronto Cypher Video w/ Keysha Fresh, Lex Leosis, Haviah Mighty and pHoenix Pagliacci"

In honour of International Women’s Day, TeamBackPack landed in Toronto once again to deliver the second cypher series out of the city, this time featuring four incredible rappers – who just happen to be women. With production from Little Sister, who recently wowed judges at Battle of the Beatmakers, Keysha Fresh, Lex Leosis, Haviah Mighty and pHoenix Pagliacci go bar for bar in this 5-minute video that celebrates more than just our city, but its female spitters too. - Boi-1da

"HERE ARE SOME FIRE BARS FROM FOUR RISING TORONTO RAPPERS IN HONOR OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY"

Have you ever heard someone rap so good you had to close your eyes and ask Our Lord Saviour what you did to deserve this? Well in honour of International Women's Day, Team Backpack has put together just that in a cypher featuring some of Toronto's most promising upcoming rappers. And the results are incredible.

Featuring the likes Keysha Freshh, Lex Leosis, Haviah Mighty and pHoenix Pagliacci, the four drop an infinite amount of quotables and "motivated metaphors" over a throbbing beat courtesy of producer, Little Sister. Watch the video below and hold your armrest tightly. - Noisey

Bio

Lex Leosis is an overwhelmingly cheerful and charismatic presence among any line of fellow emcees, but make no mistakes, she is anything but chipper on the microphone. Her roots in the competitive world of slam poetry and rap come out in her fierce and abrasive lyricism, and that competitive drive has already given her a notable spot in the Toronto underground scene. The Toronto-native emcee and spoken word artist was part of the first Toronto Poetry Slam team, the first-ever Canadian team to compete at Brave New Voices in 2011, and since moved on to release three consecutive mixtapes, as well as a decorated career in rap competitions. She has taken both the online and local community by storm, playing 100s of shows, touring the west coast of the United States, and generating millions of views. Lex Leosis was featured in TeamBackPack’s International Women’s Day Cypher, hosted by 40z Heroes. This cypher went viral, receiving high praise from top Hip Hop blogs around the world, including Nosiey, The Fader, Hype Machine, and Boi-1da. Recently, Lex Leosis was showcased on Huffington's Post "Bars from the 6" Cypher.
