"Scott Yanow"

“The ensembles are tight, while the concise solos are soulful, melodic and passionate. The music could be called fusion, Latin crossover or even smooth, but Level 10 does not limit itself to one genre and succeeds at carving out its own musical niche. With their excellent musicianship and ability to say a lot in a short space, Level 10 clearly has a strong future. And Levy DeAndrade proves throughout Crossover that he is a composer well worth watching.

"Brian Soergel - Jazz Times"

"“It’s hard to pin down Level 10’s musical style, and that’s a good thing. There are some engaging smooth-jazz leanings, but on Crossover you’ll get plenty of muscular funk, Latin, contemporary jazz and Brazilian-style music, the latter inspired by leader Levy DeAndrade’s native country. This highly professional band, which has fans worldwide, is sure to expand its fan base with a CD that will certainly rank among the top released in 2011.”"

"Jonathan Widran - Wine and Jazz"

"I just got hit with the vibrant gale force of Level 10 and I seriously doubt my Brazilian pop jazz sensibilities will ever be the same. Where have I been? Level 10 put out their debut CD Together in 2009, were named “Tampa’s Best Jazz Band” by CBS Radio before touring Europe heavily. The skillful foursome mixes deep jazz chops with danceable grooves and powerhouse melodies creating incredible energy that doesn’t quit for a minute on their genre-transcending second album Crossover. Crossover is pure fiery fun, highlighted by the perfect trade off on melody and harmony between group founder, Levy DeAndrade’s spirited keys and Rex Freligh’s brilliant sax lines and a rolling rhythm section with Yovannis Roque (electric and acoustic bass), Tony Cintron (percussion) and Sean Fote (Drums). Crossover is filled with so many buoyant pleasures it’s hard to know where to stop the praise. If this is Level 10, I can’t wait to see them at the next level of their career! "

"Lancaster Music Festival ( UK )"

Level 10 (Tampa Bay, USA)

My personal highlight of the whole Lancaster Festival though I must declare an interest in funky, Cuban, Brazilian and American modern jazz played at Grammy nominated level and Level 10 are just that. Their performance at a packed Dalton Rooms on the Sunday evening, one of the last shows of the festival was, for me, as good as it gets.

Levy DeAndrade (keys), Rex Freligh (sax), Yovannis Roque (bass) and Sean Fote (drums) are undisputed masters of their respective instruments and the dexterity and ferocity with which they play together on Levy’s complex yet highly rhythmic compositions is the key to the response this band received. Not only was the dance floor packed but the band received that most positive of audience feedback: the audience’s approval after songs was so loud that the mics on stage started to pick it up and feed the jubilant roar back into the PA. This is, as far as I know, something new for Lancaster. It happened with Level 10 on Sunday Oct. 10th 2010. May it happen here again and soon!

When the producers of 4th Friday Clearwater put together its kick-off for the 30th Anniversary of the Clearwater Jazz Holiday on September 25th, they knew they had to have performances by none other than the renowned jazz band, Level 10. Known as “a unique band that has mastered the blend of smooth and contemporary jazz music,” Level 10 has been recognized by the area’s top Smooth Jazz Music radio station, WSJT, and was honored to become the winner of the WSJT’s Best Smooth Jazz Band 2008.
After founding a successful recording studio and producing several albums, Levy DeAndrade decided to use his musical expertise and form a band. After four years of searching out local talent, he found not only the best players in their fields, but also the right chemistry to create a mature group of musicians dedicated to creating soul-inspiring smooth jazz music.
•Rippin’ up the Bass for Level 10 is Cuban born legend Yovannis Roque;

•Rex Freligh is well known on the jazz festival circuit for his smooth and soulful saxophone melodies;

•Percussionist Ignacio Marin has 25 years of professional playing experience in both the US and Latin America; and

•Drummer Kenny Suarez’s talent on the drums is well known both locally and nationally, and he has toured with many jazz greats.
Levy and his band deliver what all jazz music lovers desire: musical talent with feeling and soul! And they’ll be rippin’ it up in September at the 4th Friday Clearwater event.

4th Friday Clearwater Parties on Cleveland Street are free. The only suggested donation this September will be a non-perishable food item for the RCS Food Bank who recently ran dangerously low on food.

Two city blocks will be closed down on Cleveland Street in Downtown Clearwater with beer, wine, food and wares for sale. The party starts at 5:30pm and will go until 10pm.

The CLEARWATER JAZZ HOLIDAY FOUNDATION will be the benefiting charity supplying volunteers to run the beer and wine stands.

Bio

When a band can create memorable compositions, compelling melodies and deep toe tapping grooves, how would you rate them? Well the fans of Levy DeAndrade, Yovannis Roque, Rex Freligh, Ivan Ivila rate them a 10 and beyond! This dynamic group of seasoned players that make up Level 10 is living up to its name and taking it to the top with blistering live performances, an incredible international following and now a brand new CD titled Crossover. Levy DeAndrade, Level 10s founder and keyboardist, was born in Brazil and absorbed the music styles of his homeland when he started playing the guitar and piano at a very young age. After high school he moved to San Francisco, and quickly became part of the citys jazz scene. He then relocated to New York and worked as a first-call studio musician for the Hit Factory where he composed, arranged and shared the stage with many amazing performers like Al Jarreau, Keiko Matsui, Kim Waters, Wayman Tisdale and many others. Hes performed with many talented and Grammy Award winning artists like Gypsy Kings, Gloria Estefan, Candy Dulfer, and Cesar Camargo Mariano and has toured throughout the US, Central America and Russia.

Throughout his career, Rex has played numerous festivals, concert venues, and TV shows ranging in musical styles from Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Brazilian & Latin Jazz, Jazz Fusion, R&B, Rock and Blues to Pop, Symphonic, Christian and Gospel music.
