Mikaela Kahn

Mikaela Kahn is a soulful singer, songwriter and pianist from the ever-gray Pacific Northwest who is currently making her home in sunny Texas. Her clear, warm, resounding voice has been compared to Eva Cassidy and Norah Jones.

As a new addition to the world of songwriting, Mikaela has already achieved much acclaim. She was a finalist at the Telluride Bluegrass Festivals Troubadour Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Competition, as well as the Mountain Stage NewSong Regional Finalist and the International Acoustic Music Awards (Best Female Artist category). She won first place in the Indie International Songwriting Contest (pop).

Mikaela recently released her first EP of original songs, entitled Fall With You -- meticulously crafted and compelling, with soaring melodies and range of emotion. The EP showcases this 23-year-olds perspectives of love as she easily shifts moods from playfully optimistic to plaintive and intimate.

Recorded in Nashville at Ocean Way Studios, the album features four folk pop songs enhanced by the sounds of seasoned Nashville professionals with credits playing for Lady Antebellum, Alison Krauss and Tower of Power. Mikaela was delighted to play keyboards with this high power group, and direct their sound to mesh with her vision. Her accessible style is peppered with virtuosic vocal surprises and thoughtful lyrics, displaying her love of pop, jazz, folk and R&B.

In 2012, Mikaela graduated from the acclaimed Jazz Studies program at the University of North Texas, where she deepened her knowledge and passion for music and met her accomplished band members. When she turned her attention to songwriting, Mikaela developed her own eclectic folk pop sound, mixing the rhythmic characteristics of Jason Mraz with the effortless pop vocals of Sara Bareilles, and provocative jazz sensibilities.

Along her journey, Mikaela has sung with some high profile artists: Ben Folds at the Dallas Symphony, touring with Chrisette Michele, a spontaneous duet with R&B superstar Trey Songz at a piano bar gig (over 160,000 hits on YouTube), opening for jazz greats Manhattan Transfer at the Kennedy Center. She is the singing voice of a mob princess in an animated musical film from London. Her contemporary rendition of Autumn Leaves appears on a compilation CD of well-known female jazz singers (Voices of Love, Evosound).

Mikaela is ready to shine in a wider spotlight, having found that listeners everywhere appreciate her voice and lyrics. With tons of talent, Mikaela is writing, recording, and touring. Shes currently preparing a full album of all new, original material.
