"Orange Beanie Album Interview"

Diggie Ward, better known as Orange Beanie was born in Indianapolis, In. Beanie Has been rapping as a small hobby since about age 11, although it wasn’t until he was 19 that he started taking it seriously. The first time he met Spaid and Don Piff they were all in high school together. This was his introduction to the Immaculate 20/20 music group. Around this same time, unannounced to his friends Beanie had started writing raps to beats his brother Lord Ward had made. He and his brothers family have made music their entire lives so it was at age 15 he started deciding to follow their footsteps.

What inspired him to actually start taking rap seriously was the realization that he was unhappy. His Guru brother, McArchie, was a vital part in this revelation. While in college he came to the conclusion to stop living the dreams of his parents/family and start living his own. With this revelation fervent in his mind he and Nvte Digitz started recording so Beanie could hone his skills. Two years into that venture and Don Piff, Spaid, & Zakk Lo ask OB and Nvte to join the immaculate 2020 family and Guru Gang was born. Another two years after that and now they’re each focusing on self growth but still carry themselves as a unit, oddly and that’s where we meet Beanie today. what drives OB to this day is the people he loves and doubters. “Motivation is Key” and his motivation is proving to himself he can make his dreams a reality. “I let people think I’m ignorant or not paying any attention or unfocused but that’s simply not the case. Never has been.” Beanie’s confidence is rising each and every day with more material being cranked out constantly it shouldn’t be long before OB builds onto the buzz the Guru Gang created. It is simply a matter of time before he blows.

PG: Where did the name Orange Beanie come from?
Orange Beanie: The name orange beanie came from a blunt with my brother. I didn’t want a basic name, more or less i wanted something where i could bring everyone in. Something where I could make a song with 2 Chainz and then on that same album I could do a song with Beck. He had a Orange Beanie sitting in the corner then said, “you should go by Orange Beanie” and I was like nah lol. Then, I looked at the hat and was like yea, so just after that day I’ve just been Orange Beanie.
PG: How did you get started into music?
Beanie: My family has made music since as long as I could remember. My uncles started a band here in Indy called Toy Factory, and they a lot of things in the local jazz scene. Its always been around me, but I didn’t start writing and rapping until the age of 15 when I met spade Spade and Don Piff of Guru Gang. I started taking it more seriously when I met Nate in college.
PG: What has your experience been with Immaculate 20/20?
Beanie: So far so good. With any new business being newcomers, you will have your initial troubles. Its going to be a rocky road but for the most part its been good. We have known each other for a while so its like these are my brothers I get to do everything I wanted to do with. Not just so much as a business aspect.

PG: What is your perspective on today’s Hip-Hop?
Beanie: My perspective is that there are two sides. Everybody wants to turn up or everybody wants to be conscious. You have your Kendricks’, then you have your Futures’. You have your Drakes’ then you have your J. Coles’. Its black and white there is no gray in between area.
PG: Who are your top five musicians right now?
Beanie: In no particular order, I would say Kembra. She is from England or something like that, but I listened to her album a lot last year. If you have never heard of her music, go check it out because she’s tight. Pharrell is tight as well. Kendrick with his concepts, and how he structures things. Then for two finals, Panic At The Disco and Andre 3000.
PG: So the title of this project, what does the acronym stand for and why that title.
Beanie: Its “I Don’t Know What The F**k”. Hip Hop right now, I don’t know the state of it so I just wanted to create something that will make everybody happy.
PG: What is the concept behind the LP?
Beanie: The concept behind the LP was you have your trap side, then you have your really ride around and think music. Split it directly down the middle, and hopefully it embodies the state of hip hop right now.
PG: Off the entire project what is your favorite song?
Beanie: “Dre Told Me To” would be my number one favorite because it is the most honest. That song is about not necessarily anything in particular, I was just rapping. My label head liked what I had so far with the project and wanted me to give him a song of me just rapping. My second favorite would be “12202015”, just because of how it is put together.
PG: What is to come after this project?
Beanie: I am working with a few people. Doing some stuff with Zakk Lo, J. Stokes, Mula Kkhan, and a few others.
PG: Where is the project located?
Beanie: It is on SoundCloud, Audiomack, iTunes, Spotify, and a few other places where music can be purchased and streamed.

Discography

Orange Beanies' debut album IDKWTF is a unique fusion of hip-hop's two most prominent styles trap-rap and conscious. The album effectively mixes the modern hip-hop sounds with Orange Beanies' eccentric personality creating a refreshing head nodding turn up experience for each listeners pleasure. Frankly speaking IDKWTF is the most blatant representation of hip-hop in 2016! https://play.spotify.com/artist/5pRvcgnyHOQKAh1PRbtjkP
