Paper Foxes

How many bands with ‘fox’ in their name can you think of? I’d bet quite a few. While the popularity of foxes has slowed down a bit recently, it is far from obsolete, and Paper Foxes are here to throw their name on the list. Come to think of it, ‘paper’ is another often used one. But this Phoenix-based group wants to stand out from the crowd. Breaking out of Phoenix, Arizona, Paper Foxes are taking their lo-fi sound into the future with the exclusive release of the band’s first single, Marz Attacks. Taking an ethereal trip through the end of the world, the debut track has a great 90’s garage rock vibe with a bit more structure and a healthy dose of DIY. Grab your hair grease and prepare for a good, old-fashioned 1950s alien invasion. North American Shuffle is the latest garage rock release by Phoenix’s Paper Foxes and their nine-track EP is infectious. The majority of the album lends itself to a rowdy, rolling sound, with brief pauses for some quiet moments and radio announcements in between. We’ll give it to you straight- if greaser gangs were to rumble during a martian attack, North American Shuffle would be blasting in the background, so it’s pretty badass.

The ridiculously titled debut single from Paper Foxes is no laughing matter. I've seen these cats perform a few times now, and they are one of the bands to watch in 2015. Just listen to "Bologna Pantalones" and tell me that is not one of the most vital garage rock ragers that has been released in a while. In case you don't know who the Paper Foxes are, it's C.J. Jacobson fronting the band on vocals with Robert Ciuca (Fairy Bones) on guitar, Matthew Foos (Fairy Bones) on drums and Patro Gaston (Zodiac Bash) on keys. Yeah, the lineup is that good. Their debut single is simply a stellar, cathartic exercise in vitriol that totally presents itself as a calling card to the world. It is one of the most exciting singles I have heard in a while, and if you think this is great, the approaching EP will certainly blow your mind. I’m all about this new track from Paper Foxes and have ostensibly had it on replay for an unhealthy amount of time. Once you get into the gritty rock of “Bologna Pantalones”, you’ll definitely know what I’m talking about. This song begs for the replay button.
