Souls of Sophie calls Columbia home by way of New Orleans, Chicago and Portland. It’s more than a little odd to end up in the Capital City considering the dense musical pedigree of each of those other cities, but when you dabble on the lighter side of post-punk with a self-proclaimed strain called “modern-wave,” I imagine home can be whereever it’s dark enough to summon the lords of gothic rock. SOS — an acronym that cannot be an accident — plays to your expected shoegaze and electronic goth touchstones: The Cure, OMD, Depeche Mode, Slowdive, etc., with a competent mix of swirling ‘80s synths, overly simplistic programmed drums, and the foundation of any self-respecting dark wave band: Melodramatic baritone vocals.

Souls of Sophie at Art Bar. When Marty Fort, Art Bar's booking agent, tells us to listen to a band, we oblige. And he's right: Souls of Sophie, a goth band with a post punk and shoegaze gleam, is the best Columbia has seen. The music has an ethereal punchiness, and when it's droney, it's on purpose. - Otis Taylor - The State: Columbia,SC

Bio
'souls of sophie' is influenced by bands: The Chameleons UK, The Cure, OMD, Echo and the Bunnymen, DM, The Verve, Slowdive....to name a few. Since it's inception, the band has undergone several line-up changes as well as a few location changes (New Orleans-LA, Chicago, Portland-OR, and currently Columbia-SC). During this time, 'dusk - EP' (2004), and 'frozen path - LP' (2006) has been released.
In spite of a shaky past, the band continues to create sonic landscapes best described as "modern-wave": The merging of post-punk style with modern sound and energy.
