"Sam Opoku Shows Promise With New Single Release, "Yellow""

After a year of perfecting the track, Sam Opoku released his single, "Yellow," a soft-electric beat that Opoku is really proud of- for good reason. "Yellow" serves as a remembrance to a summer sling with a girl whose favorite color is, you guessed it, yellow. Opoku said that "yellow is significant in this story because of the two sides it represents; happiness, positivity, energy, optimism, and loyalty, on the bright side and cowardice, anxiety, deceit and jealousy on the dull side."

Opoku produced the song himself, and the impressive flow of lyrics shows maturity is two ways. The first is that he made everything work together really well, creating a seamless and smooth track that is easily lovable from the first moment it plays. Opoku plotted the lyrics in a seamless fashion, laying the storyline in a simple and enticing sequence. The second is that he has reflected on the relationship, transforming his emotional thoughts into three minutes and 10 seconds of beauty and appreciation for the girl he once dated.

That flame burned out, but Opoku's momentum did not. The artist has been promoting this song big time on his Instagram page @sam.opoku, his latest release since December 2019. Simply put: it’s just a good freaking song. You know what I mean. Check out “Yellow” by Sam Opoku below. - Elevator Magazine

"SAM OPOKU’S YELLOW BURNS BRIGHT"

“She said her favourite colour yellow,” sings Sam Opoku with a beautiful falsetto. Yellow is filled with sunshine via atmosphere-warping R&B and a gliding trap-tinged beat.

The feeling of summer is embodied in Yellow’s meaning. It is told from the viewpoint of a young man who loses his heart to a woman during the summer. However, there is much more to it than that as the woman is not confident with herself as “her heart was broken” from a previous relationship. “It burns in July and it felt like a dream but a dream is the best kinda lie.”

Sam Opoku is a Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter, producer, and musician who embodies many feelings in his new single. Yellow’s hook-laden R&B choruses are warm and inviting.

“Yellow is significant in this story because of the two sides it represents; happiness, positivity, energy, optimism and loyalty, on the bright side and cowardice, anxiety, deceit and jealousy on the dull side. The song is a dialogue as well as an ode to the bittersweet nuance of finding and losing love and the elements that linger behind after the flame has burned out.” – Sam Opoku - Neon Music

"Sam Opoku - Yellow"

Did you hear? “She said her favorite color ‘Yellow,” and can we just say, it’s such a great color on her! Sam Opoku straight up kills it in his latest single ‘Yellow’ as he speaks of a woman who came into his life and changed it completely!

The way Opoku harmonies “Yellow…” brings shivers down your spine. All he really wants to do is fix her broken heart and make her feel '“Mellow!'“ There’s a slight Eric Bellinger comparison within Opoku’s voice, although he gives off more of a carefree delivery and grungy sound within. It really doesn’t matter if your favorite color is Green, blue or purple… ‘Yellow’ is sure to change you for the better!

Lyrics That Stick:

“She said her favorite color Yellow

It look good on her dress

Tryna be slim, thick nothing less.” - Banger of the Day

His lyrics are powerful, strong and tell a story of his own truths as he journeys through life. This rare ability to catch the moment perfectly through the spoken word was rewarded by becoming a finalist in the American National PoetryOutLoud Championship.

A commercial Afrobeat track, ‘The One’ reached the top of the charts in Ghana and was quickly followed by another hit, ‘Love Somebody’. Sam’s emergence as an artist to be reckoned with was announced when he signed two tracks with the worlds largest independent label Armada Music. Headed by international heavyweights Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis, Armada knows a thing or two about talent and Sam was a perfect fit for the industry giant.

His work has continued to be recognised by artists around the globe including Black Koffee who elevated the status of Sam’s collaboration with South African duo Kususa by including it on his legendary playlist. Make no doubt, to achieve such lofty ambitions, speaks to the absolute talents that he has in the production studio.

There are few that can tell their story in such a unique and compelling way, and Sam is about to unleash an EP of original music that will see his star shine even brighter. Evocative and soulful, blessed with the occasional rap flow that gives his songs the authenticity and originality of a master at work, his musical arrangements are the perfect vehicle to showcase his vocals in a landscape of complex textures.

As the world emerges from its pain, the music of Sam Opoku will bring that light to those that so desperately need it.
