Bio
As a solo artist, Stone Mecca has formed a love triangle between roots rock, blues and funk. As a producer and musician, he’s solidly established a foothold in both hip hop and r&b. Now, on his latest EP “Alienman”, which is due for a fall 2018 release, Stone Mecca combines his love of hard-hitting hip hop beats and funk-driven bass lines with grinding guitar riffs and soulful melodies. With a tight, energetic 4-piece band consisting of guitar, bass, drums and percussions, Stone Mecca’s live set packs the walls with a titanic sound.
Easily navigating through an array of musical genres, this multi-instrumentalist has put his stamp on soundtracks for Django Unchained, The Man with the Iron Fist, Friday, Blade: Trinity, Soul Plane, Repo Men, Afro Samurai and Afro Samurai Resurrection. He’s also appeared on albums for such artists as Wu-Tang, RZA as Bobby Digital, Kanye West, and Ice Cube and the West Side Connection. On his 2007 debut album First Contact, which featured the critically acclaimed soul song “A Walk,” OkayPlayer remarked, “In a fair world, music like this would be present all the time on prime time rotation in various radio markets.”
Stone Mecca has performed live with Earth, Wind & Fire, in the studio with George Clinton, on the road with Wu-Tang Clan, and whenever RZA performs live, he often shares stage billing with Stone Mecca and his band. Says RZA, “Stone Mecca gives us a modern day example of what heart and soul music is.”
A self taught musician, Stone Mecca honed his craft by listening to artists like Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Parliament and Funkadelic, Al Green, Prince and Earth, Wind & Fire. “Music is my comfort zone, my vice, my drug of choice. I even named my guitar - I call her Eloise and she’s like my other woman. I love her unconditionally and when I perform, I give her everything I have.”
