"Streetlight Marathon kicks off"

You know you’re on your way when mom isn’t the only one listening to your album, says Mississauga native and burgeoning musician Andrew Ricchetti.
The 29-year-old singer, guitarist, drummer and songwriter — pretty much a
one-man band — fronts indie rock band Streetlight Marathon. He credits growing up in Mississauga and spending time in Chicago for giving him the inspiration to create Streetlight’s first, self-titled
album.
“I went from suburban lifestyle to downtown lifestyle in a really extreme way by going to such a huge city,” he said. “It’s the contrast of those two lifestyles — that’s what really drove a lot of the inspiration and ideas for the album.”
Ricchetti came up with the band’s name after staring down long Chicago streets lined with never-ending streetlights for a year.
When he returned to Mississauga in 2010 and landed a job with a marketing firm, he tried to forget his dreams of music, but he couldn’t give up on his passion.
With Metalworks, one of Canada’s top studios, right in his backyard, Ricchetti decided to book some sessions and record the songs rattling around his head.
“I really didn’t expect people to listen to it,” he said, noting soon after the June 13 release it started getting play on internet radio stations. Ricchetti was also asked to do some interviews and then asked to do a show.
That’s when he thought to himself, “Oh crap, now I need a band. It totally caught me off guard.”
Lake Curry, 23, of Toronto, who played bass on the album and will give Ricchetti a hand doing shows, says he’s not surprised the album’s doing well.
“It was his first time in a studio, but his ideas were really good and they manifested into something really original,” said Curry.
Thinking ahead, Ricchetti says he’s in it for the love of making music, for creating “sonic sound-scapes able to reflect human emotions” — and he hopes he still has the chance to do so as things move forward.
“I hope what’s driving the album’s success is the sincerity of the music,” he said, adding the honesty of the album reaches the listener because he didn’t record it trying to be a rock star.
“We’re only just getting started,” he said. “But honestly, I’m just happy there are more people than just my mom listening — that’s always good.”

"Streetlight Marathon's memorable debut at The Hard Rock Cafe"

Toronto multi-instrumentalist Andrew Ricchetti, performed his debut live show as Streetlight Marathon on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Café, Toronto. The performance took the headlining slot of the evening after a host of other Indie acts entertained fans during the popular event.

Streetlight Marathon, an alternative rock band that combines influences from the Foo Fighters, U2 and the Smashing Pumpkins, performed a short, but solid 40-minute set of well constructed from-the-heart songs from the band’s self-titled EP. The cohesiveness of the 5-piece band, that Ricchetti had only assembled a month prior to the show, was impressive and gave the impression to anyone unaware of their “newness” that they had been doing this together for years.

The standout song “Intersections”, with its relatable, catchy chorus “Wondering am I going the wrong way. Took the shortcuts, but it feels like I’m headed the long way”, had the feel and pace of a classic Goo Goo Dolls song and still echoed in my memory days after the show. Having run through the EP’s complete track listing and the new unreleased “We Are Destruction”, Ricchetti ended the evening on a high note with a nicely executed cover of The Killers “Smile Like You Mean It” before saying goodnight.
