"SUBURBAN MOMS - Turning Schools Into Stones 7" (Planet Bullshit)"

SUBURBAN MOMS - Turning Schools Into Stones 7" (Planet Bullshit)
A new US band playing in-yer-face 77 influenced punk with loud abrasive guitars , like perhaps early NEON HEARTS (intro reminds me a bit of "Venus Eccentric") . This would be just as much at home on No Front Teeth records as it would be an obscure self released Killed By Death 7" back in '78. And the B-Side "Tolerating Intolerance" shows they ain't no slouches at writing lyrics either , a brutally sarcastic attack on tyrants/mercenaries/armies wiping out people with no remorse . Good stuff! http://www.planetbullshit.biz/product/suburban-moms-turning-schools-into-stones-7 - Savage Amusement

"Suburban Moms — Turning Schools into Stones 7”"

I’ve got a soft spot for grungy punk. It’s basically the foundation of my musical journey. So to hear something fun, with sick riffs and a pretty spot on message well it just gets my rompers stomping so to speak. Suburban Mom’s kick riffs like kids in an AYSO game. Delicious dirty bass lines bounce alongside hop and skip drumming with vocals running up and down the corner streets of shriek and yowl. The 7” that they so graciously sent us features a sampling from their full-length. “Turning Schools into Stones” makes me want to skate. I feel as there’s no higher compliment I can give. A full skate and destroy vibe permeates this song so hard it’s practically electric. Coupled with “Tolerating Intolerance” this short spin moves from swing to stroke quite excellently. A song (from what I grasp) about the ever perpetual creation of “intolerant brute snakes” finds itself ironically enough within a winding riff playing out over a bash-in of a bass strum. Political, relevant and righteously incite-ful, I’m pretty amped for the full-length as this two song offering sneak peaks into a certain doozie of a LP.

"Suburban Moms Center for the Arts Thursday, March 8th, 2012"

The crowd was still very thin when the five men, who called themselves Suburban Moms, opened for Ceremony on Thursday night at the Center for the Arts. It was barely 8 pm, but their punk rage, especially that of their frontman who looked like a kid, was truly impressive.

This little guy sure knew how to work out his crowd, looking totally pissed off on stage, shouting his vocals like a mad man, kneeling down or furiously balancing and jumping, pushing the ten people around to start his own mosh pit. And very soon it was real, his drunken antics had totally worked, as they seemed to have been inspired from the greatest names of punk. They had instantaneously created mayhem and destruction over fast-loud discordant guitars and firing drum beats.

Not surprisingly, they wrote Black Flag as their first ‘likes’ on their Facebook page, and they certainly had this same furious pissed off sound, although the young singer may have been closer to Morris size-wise than all-muscle Rollins. At one point, he climbed on an amp, and, surprisingly, managed to do some crowd surfing over the few people standing there, which carried him back safe and sound to the stage. It takes some guts, and he certainly had some with his epileptic-mental-ward acrobatic moves.
‘Thank you for choking me’ he said after one of his numerous interactions with the crowd, ‘It felt great’, he also seemed to have been in that kind of dark humor.

With their aggressive-crushing riffs and atonal angst, suburban Moms sounded as if they had been at the greatest punk-rock school,… but don’t get me wrong, it didn’t sound or look like a mimic or a pale copy, it was a pure and real punk craziness. - Alyson Camus
