"PREMIERE: SUNBATHERS SHINE WITH THEIR DEBUT EP"

This fall is officially a second summer with the release of indie-rock group Sunbathers’ self-titled debut EP.

The band, comprised of Sean Lynott on vocals and synth, Peter Mindnich on guitar and vocals, Tim Boate on guitar, Sean Oliver on bass and Shohsei Oda on drums, formed in the fall of 2013 while they were living on H Street. Since then, they’ve stretched their time between D.C. and Baltimore, traveling back and forth to perform shows in each city.

The EP is a solid debut effort from the five-piece ensemble. Recorded and produced at Dreamcatcher Studio in Baltimore by Donny Ingram, the five tracks are a shimmering dose of rock blended with hints of funk and R&B. It sounds like the soundtrack to a summer adventure inside your ears while the rest of you is bundled up to combat the cold weather elements.

Highlights from the release include “Daisy,” a light, airy tune with an energetic beat overlaid with smooth vocals. “Intimacy” is a slow groove with sweeping, wide-reaching beats, as Lynott’s voice cascades tenderly against the song’s palpitations.

Sunbathers will hold an EP release show at Velvet Lounge on Saturday, Dec. 12. Stream it below and download it for free on SoundCloud or Bandcamp. - D.C. Music Download

"PAIRING DARKNESS AND LIGHT ON SUNBATHERS’ DEBUT EP"

Formed in the H Street neighborhood of Washington, D.C., during fall 2013, SUNBATHERS fuses multiple influences blending dark and light imagery, with bright, melodic hooks. In November 2015, the band released their self-titled debut EP, featuring five cathartic songs from vocalist Sean Lynott, guitarists Peter Mindnich and Tim Boaté, drummer Shohsei Oda, and bassist Sean Oliver. With two years under their belts, the band is staking their claim amongst the musical elite of the region.

We spoke with Boaté and Lynott regarding the sonic direction the band is heading, how it feels to release their new album, and how they will be going full circle and beyond in 2016.

"Track Of The Day :: Sunbathers - Intimacy"

The first thing you are struck by with Baltimore indietronica band Sunbathers is the vocal. You are not too many seconds into 'Intimacy', the lead track from their debut EP, when you start to wish there was a video, just for a sight of Sean Lynott's tremulous lips that must surely accompany his pitch-peaking vocal and wobble-mode tonsils: both need to be heard to be believed.

Released on November 10, the five-track self-titled record, produced by Donny Ingram at Baltimore's Dreamcatcher Studio, marks a strong start for the quintet who split their time between Washington D.C. and Baltimore.

'Intimacy' is without doubt a standout, its slow groove gradually opening out on jangle beats, and tinkling synths - and some interesting instrumentation in the last minute - as Lynott’s voice draws you in and grabs the attention. Sunbathers create a sound here that we hear the like of fairly often from young British indie outfits, but not so much from across the pond. Early days one suspects right now for Sunbathers, but a band heading promisingly in the right direction.

Check out 'Intimacy' below, and hear more of the EP via Bandcamp.

"HEAR THIS: Sunbathers"

Is it getting hot in here? Sunbathers are an arousing mix of hot and heavy packed into a Baltimore indie rock band. When they hit falsettos, they make everything feel sexual, yet tame, utilizing vocal timbres that caress and guitar decorations that perfectly brighten the highway”s night air (“Intimacy,” “Summer in the City”). If their sound isn”t lulling you into swoons, then their resonant energy will at least keep you feeling your liveliest (“Daisy”). Sunbathers bring that feeling of a compact vacation while you”re in your car, dancing on the sidewalk, or on the apartment roof with a couple of lawn chairs and your partner. Pack your sunscreen and check out their EP. - The Owl Mag

"My First Introduction to Baltimore band Sunbathers"

My first introduction to Baltimore band Sunbathers was by way of a vivid indie electronic remix of their song, Summer In The City, by Washington, D.C.’s Yites. This month sees the band’s release of a debut EP, a self titled five song collection of captivating indie rock, including flushed opener Intimacy. Sunbathers walks a fine line between alt rock and synthpop on the glimmering, rippling gem, one that leaves me feeling like I’m floating weightlessly on air. "SUNBATHERS – INTIMACY"

Introducing Baltimore-based band, Sunbathers.

Sunbathers was started by Sean Lynott and Tim Boate, who met while attending the University of Maryland, and began performing as an acoustic duo before embarking on more of an easeful, sun-soaked indietronica sound.

"Sunbathers - Summer in the City"

Baltimore’s Sunbathers, the freshly formed indie-rock collective out of DC’s famed H street ‘hood, are starting to make a name for themselves. After releasing a smattering of demos and originals to their SoundCloud profile over the past few months, the local five piece have just offered up the finished version of their sunny season cut “Summer in the City.” Greeted by low-pressure, good-time vibes and warm vocals, this alt-pop smash should feel right at home on any summertime playlist.

Give it a spin now and for any DMV readers check the guys out this Saturday June 13th at Mums in B-more’s Federal Hill. - Digital High

"Blue Room Showcase: Harmonic Blue Album Release Show Feat. Sunbathers, Atoka Chase & Sealab @ Black Cat"

Sunbathers, a pop indie rock band, took the stage right before Harmonic Blue. The band is comprised of Sean Lynott on vocals and synth, Peter Mindnich on guitar and vocals, Tim Boate on guitar, Sean Oliver on bass, and Shohsei Oda on drums. The Sunbathers are charmingly raw, which makes you fall in love with them throughout their performance. While the band’s instrumentation is groovy, poppy, and energetic, Sean’s voice, the lead singer, is actually very soulful and borderline R&Bish. This makes for a beautiful integration of various sounds. As a whole, the band has a knack for promoting camaraderie amongst the crowd by leading them to bond with one another. They also perform as if they are a part of the audience; it felt like we were on stage with them and they were on the floor with us. - Blue Room Music Studio

"<5K: Volume 4"

Sunbathers (441 likes) is a DC quintet that deserves immediate attention. In its 3 songs, their eponymous demo on Soundcloud captivates and serves intelligent, beautifully-crafted songs about cognitive dissonance in a way that should make the Arctic Monkeys jealous. Listen to the subtle wah pedaling and astounding vocal performance in “New Blood.” “Swell” is a brilliant trip over dark, sensual verses to an emotionally evocative chorus, suffused with showmanship and theatrical delivery. Danceable and perfectly timed, another inevitable comparison to be drawn is Maroon 5, who have never written anything as good as “Swell.” The third track, “Limbo,” is tense and mysterious, with spidery riffs crawling across the tracks as vocalist Sean Lynott continues to wow. This is a good band. This is a great band. Be excited about them. We can only hope they have plans for a full-length, and soon.
