Tha Materials

Tha Materials (or Tha Mats for short) is a Soul Hip-hop Group based in Durham, NC. Established in 2012 by founding members Drummer JC Justice III, MC/Trumpet Cameron Tripp, &  Trumpet Will Smith, Tha Mats came about from a mutual desire to create dope original music. Later additions to tha band were tha "Songbird" voice of singer/songwriter Raney Hayes, Travis Jones on Bass/keyboard, MC/songwriter Juteria Eaves, and most recently MC/ multi-instrumentalist L.O.Z.

They all attended North Carolina Central University and played and held leadership roles together in tha marching band and various other ensembles on campus. They are still a dedicated collective of multi-talented individuals. This unique combination of instrumental talent, dope lyricism, and creativity fostered Tha Materials' style of positive, thought provoking, soulful music with "Ev'rything you need" to make you feel amazing.

They have performed multiple times at various venues in tha Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Triangle area of NC and beyond including a recent performance at Cat's Cradle as support for Moonchild on their 2017 Voyager Tour(https://youtu.be/n9dP3jkH5Iw). Other Venues include the Durham Armory for ART OF COOL FEST 2016, JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL 2016&17, Local 506 as a part of Soundproof's "Already Gone" with Tracy Lamont, Konvo, J Rowdy and the Cover Charges Proof Bar for Eternal the MC's "Age of Eternal" Album Release, The Pinhook for Zoocrű's "LÜCID" Album Release, The Ugly Monkey, The Vault at the Palace International for "The Downbeat: Hip-hop Happy Hour", The Shed, The Pour House for Art of Cool and 9th Wonder presents "Caramel City" as support for Angela Johnson Beyu Caffe to name a few.
