"Grateful Eyes Reviews"

“These guys take on the genre in a whole new way. Rather than trying to resuscitate life into it, The Cold Start reclaims and rebirths the sound as their own.” - Secretly Rad Media

"Grateful Eyes Reviews"

“My Dear” comes off a deeply personal release entitled Grateful Eyes. Frontman Lloyd Williams goes deep into the hurt, and the frantic multiple guitar riffs (Williams and Nicholas Taylor on lead guitar) provide the tension. The rhythm section, consisting of Daniel Smith (bass) & Adam Cardy (drums), provide tightly controlled thunder throughout. The energy flows throughout the song just below the surface. It’s strong, powerful and drives the track right to the edge without going overboard.” - Wordkrapht

"The Cold Start Interview"

“We think we are doing some different things than other artists out there,” said the members of Orlando based band The Cold Start during a recent email interview. “We aren’t trying to be cool or set ourselves in one ‘scene.’ We write songs that we want people to really sing along to and connect to all ages, all scenes and to try and even perhaps make the cool kids have us as something of a guilty pleasure.”

The band, originally from the UK, have recently relocated to Orlando via California. “We moved to basically be closer to our label and closer to the east coast in general, as the west coast was our existence for the last year being based in Los Angeles to get things started with the band,” they said. “The climate is always hot, and it’s a much more calm and relaxing pace of life. It’s extremely different to anywhere else we’ve lived, but we are enjoying it and later in the year it will more be a base of operations with the amount of touring and recording we have planned.

The band members’ musical roots extend more towards styles rather than specific bands. “Being from the UK, its not so much ‘who’ but more genres that we’ve experienced,” said the band members. “All of us come from such varied backgrounds in music, we have a crazy sized set of influences, from punk rock and hardcore in the old days, to melodic indie, pop and rock and chart friendly music. [We] think all of the influences have helped us become better musicians and obviously much more open minded about all types.”

The band members consider themselves to be best friends and find the main inspiration for their music through that bond, but that’s not their only inspiration. “Lyrically I think I write about some obvious subjects that I think everyone writes about, relationships, hardships and changes,” said lead vocalist Lloyd Williams. “I’ve also written a lot of our songs about our actual journey so far. The passion for the music we play, how no matter how complicated it can be, and strenuous on moving such great distances and dealing with interesting people along the way, to truly believing in what we are doing. But obviously woman and complicated relationships do take a higher percentage naturally.”

The band members haven’t been in Orlando very long, but they are impressed with what they have seen of the local music scene. “We can see there is bigger scene than we expected,” they said. “Acoustic shows and open mics are everywhere and there are some great venues around the city that we are looking forward to playing. We’re reaching out to like-minded bands and basically trying to get a nice foothold and some awareness and, of course, more fans through playing as many shows as we can.”

The Cold Start, Lloyd Williams (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/keys), Nicholas Taylor (lead guitar), Daniel Smith (bass/backing vocals) and Adam Cardy (drums), formed in September of 2011. The ambitious band has big plans that will take them far beyond the Orlando local music scene with a big US tour and plans of returning to Europe on tour as well. They will also be heading to Nashville to record their debut full-length CD.

The band’s self-titled debut EP came out in January and is available on iTunes. Music fans can check out the Indie/pop/rock band on their official site, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Soundcloud and Instagram. - Examiner.com

"Music Video of the Month"

The Cold Start is an indie-rock band from Central Florida and their video for “World Cargo” is nothing short of an amazing performance video. This song is off their debut self-titled album and if the album is half as good as this song it is sure to be a hit. There is no elaborate story line in this video, there is no confusing angles that complicate the visuals, there is no need to watch the video over and over to figure out what is going on, just a classic performance music video. Originally from England, The Cold Start is taking over the independent music scene in their area with great catchy tunes. The production value for this music video is amazing for a band at this level. A majority of music videos at this stage are not professionally shot, but this music video is in high definition and it couldn’t come out any more crisp. The video showcases the extreme talents of these musicians and it proves that they will be around for a long time. Check out this music video before The Cold Start becomes a household name. - Booked Promotions

Bio

The Cold Start have unveiled their second release, Grateful Eyes, a six track indie pop record written, produced and recorded by four Englishmen living in Orlando on October 14th 2013. Grateful Eyes chronicles the bands uprooting from England and journey across Northern America moving home from Los Angeles, California to Orlando, Florida.

Originally from the South of England, Lloyd Williams (Vocals, Guitar, Piano), Nicholas Taylor (Guitar), Daniel Smith (Bass) and Adam Cardy (Drums) wrote and self-recorded Grateful Eyes and this second release is an up-tempo mix of their trademark indie rock sound layered with influences of 90s emo and brit pop. The record and particularly front man Williams lyrics explores honestly and frankly themes of love, loss (My Dear, Perfect Timing) and their journeys across America/exit from their temporary home of Los Angeles (Love, Hate, Sunset).

It wasn't just about creating another record. It was thoughtful, passionate and cared for says Williams. Nurtured by the band, the songs came together swiftly with provocation, and graceful attentiveness. That pace changed daily and the music was raised by us in a creative environment with complete freedom. That was our prerogative.

The bands punk rock roots set them apart from other live bands with an energy that is contagious and shows audiences an earnest excitement and heartfelt, passionate belief in their sound and their message.

With upcoming TV placements with the CW Network and Showtime, The Cold Start have already began showcasing material from Grateful Eyes with live shows in Florida, and will be touring Northern America in late 2013/early 2014.
