"Onyx ‘Slams’ the stage at Oshawa Music Hall with JD Era, Young Stitch & Zaze"

The first supporting act to take the stage out of the official openers and the sole 9-0-Nickel representative was the underground vet emcee Zaze. Being backed up by his regular producer Ryan Staykool White, Zaze brought out his energy infused lyrical flow while performing mostly new material during the set which brought the crowd up to the stage.

One humorous moment of the performance was when a fan passed an over sized prop blunt up to the stage and it was passed around briefly as if it was a real one. Finishing his night off with his new single “The Get Down”, it seemed to get the crowd jumping and it was my personal favorite. It was refreshing to see the high level of Canadian talent out of the Greater Toronto Area at this event leading up the Onyx performance. We will be looking forward to future events featuring these artists once things in the live music scene return to normal operation. - Hip Hop Canada

"Canadian artist Zaze enlists Rachel Jeans for “Part of Me” single"

East end Toronto area emcee Zaze recently released a new single featuring Canadian singer/songwriter Rachel Jeans titled “Part of Me.”

The song’s lyrics detail the thoughts and emotions that went through Zaze’s mind during the process of preparing him self for bringing a new daughter into the world and raising a child the best way possible. It’s a theme that any parent would quickly recognize and appreciate. The beat was produced by Anno Domini Nation, combined with the hook provided by Rachel Jeans the song stands out as a unique addition to the Zaze music library.

And based on the response the song has received so far, I wouldn’t be surprises to see these two team up again in the near future.

We reached out to Rachel Jeans for comment while writing this review and she offered some great words regarding how the collaboration came about and what the song means to her:

“You don’t have to be a parent to relate to this song. It is full of love and a reflection of how family can change your life; whatever family looks like for you,” Jeans explained.

“Zaze loved what I had put together, so we went to the studio to lay down the tracks. I was pleasantly surprised to see Zaze arrive with his daughter for our recording session. It was perfect having her there. She snuck into the vocal booth with me, and by the end of our session, was lip syncing the words back to me. Talk about melt your heart. There was something so serendipitous about how it all came together. Whenever I listen to the track, I’m taken back to that sweet moment. I’m grateful to have been a part of this project.” - Hip Hop Canada

"Premiere: Zaze celebZaze celebrates birthday & Canada Day with new video for “The Get Down”"

A few months back we posted an article about Toronto area rapper Zaze and the release of his new Don P-produced single, “The Get Down.”

Coming just in time for his birthday and Canada Day, Zaze is back with a new visual for “The Get Down” produced by longtime collaborator, True Aspect Media. The company took care of filming, lighting and editing, and split the directing duties with Zaze himself.

The new video is a visual representation of Zaze’s journey through the underground rap scene, portrayed as a subway station and an underground parking lot. Static shots of Zaze spitting under a smokey red light really bring the video to life and make it unique. Another element of the clip that makes it special is the occasional red flickering mask effect that was used during the slow motion b-roll cuts, while use of in camera red lighting and slow mo overlays give a vibe reminiscent of a smoked out Method Man joint.

We reached out to Zaze for some insight on the new release and be broke down the difficulties he encountered trying to complete the project while dealing with the COVID-19 lockdown.

“The video was shot with the concept of keeping everything underground and embodying what the essence of underground is,” Zaze explained.

“The original idea was to do a badder version of Michael Jackson’s song ‘Bad’ in an underground parking lot with a gang behind me. At first, this was interrupted by a string of security warnings on different properties, and then soon after the first day of shooting COVID-19 hit; we changed the direction to capture the emptiness of COVID-19 while on different underground subway platforms. I also wanted to illustrate how no matter what defines us or labels us like being underground we rep it with pride and show you how to ‘GET DOWN’ in the process.”

You can find “The Get Down” on various digital streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify. The single was also featured on HipHopCanada’s official Spotify playlist, Canadian Fresh. - Hip Hop Canada

"Established Canadian Artist Zaze’s First Release Of 2020 “The Get Down”"

Toronto, ON – Established Canadian Artist Zaze’s first release of 2020 “The Get Down” brings forth a
new sound for Canadians as a whole with a Heart Pumping, Trunk shaking bassline backing the
Production created by Anno Domini Nation. A nostalgic section in the hook paying homage to a legend of
this industry “Nas” as well as in your face, tongue-twisting lyrics that are delivered with an aggressive
finesse that is sure to impress. The Get Down is the first installment in a new wave of sound for Zaze
bringing people music more inclusive with our times but still keeping that underground old school flavor in
the process to attempt to please the old and new. The Get Down is also the first single released off of
Zaze’s upcoming 2020 LP that is yet to be named. - 2HighMedia.com

Bio

Zaze is an established Canadian Artist that has done over 300 shows and toured Canada over 4x.  He is the definition of hardcore hip hop but his topics stay completely in touch with reality and world events with an aggressive style and voice.  His music is not dark beyond the truths of our world which the title hardcore sometimes misleads.  He is a perfect mix between the new age flow and sounds mixed with that 90's Boom Bap sound giving you the best of both worlds.
