Biography

Music is my outlet. My life. My escape.

Jamie’s music career is just beginning and for the first time he feels he has found who he is.

Jamie grew up in a large Housing Commission estate, standing by watching every one he knew drop out of school to live on Government benefits and continue the ‘tradition’ of what seems to be the norm.

This ‘tradition’ just wasn’t enough for Jamie, he wanted more:
He is the first person in his family to finish high school,
Go to university,
Follow his aspirations and not give up.

One of his motivations is to express to his younger brothers and sisters as well as young people like them, that there is more in life and if they really work at it they can achieve what their hearts desire.

Jamie is studying a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Creative Production. Jamie is studying to be a degree wielding Musician and Producer.

Jamie only discovered his love for music in 2006, when he was 19 and since then he has learnt through a mixture of self-exploration and professional guidance. Jamie plays a number of instruments, and is willing to give most a go. Instruments he currently plays are the Guitar –Acoustic and Electric, 12 String Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica, Synthesiser and Piano.

Since starting his Music Myspace profile it has accumulated over 4000 fans less then 2 years.

Jamie’s long-term goal is to be a successful self-sufficient musician. Currently he does all his own artwork and promotion. This includes the cover art for his first EP “Just a show”.

Jamie’s musical influences are John Butler and Michael Franti. He holds John Butler responsible for helping him to discover his love for music and playing the guitar. Jamie has been to 8 JBT gigs each with there own stories but the best is when he once convinced his girlfriends parents to drive them 10 hours in one night to Melbourne to catch the launch of his last album. It was a long slow drive in the middle of the night, but they got there with a few hours to spare and were right up the front at the gig. If you pause the live at Federation Square DVD you can see Jamie.

Jamie hopes you enjoy his music. Whether he is the next best thing remains unknown however he knows his passion will not die. He couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Here is what Jamie has to say about his first EP release-

My first EP release is titled “Just a show”, and was produced by David Bennett and I. It is a combination of songs I have written in the last two years.

Some of which have seen me place in the top 100 songwriters in various categories in 2008 and 2009 in the annual Australian Song writing Associations (ASA) competition.

All the songs hold deep meaning, with each song being written at a certain time in my life when I needed to express my feelings, their real songs written about real things.
The name of the EP comes from two tracks. “Wonder Why”, a song written about an ongoing battle with an anxiety disorder, and “War and a Show”, a song about looking at what is actually going on in the world, manly focusing on the War on Terror and how it seems to make great prime time TV, when really it should not be a TV series.

All the tracks on the EP are written about different aspects of my life, contrasting from one another with the up beat love song that is “Always Be” to the slower message driven track that is “Traditions of Today”.

“Just a show” really is my thoughts put to song, and hopefully everyone who listens to the EP can relate to a number of them.

Lyrics

War and A show

Written By: Jamie Clarke

I look into the mirror what do I see
A shady character starring at me
I ask myself how could this be
With a world torn up in world war three

Look at the kids on the street
Shuffling there feet just to make ends meet
You know this all seems so wrong
Just another consequence of a world that gone

Chorus
Stand back, stand tall, yeah man we‘ll defend them all
Sit back, sit tight, those kids are scared for there lives
We know they think, its all about food and drink
We know they know, its all about the war and a show

Why do we live this way?
Dropping bombs like there’s no today
We don’t even think
We could make this right
We just drop another bomb and that’s there life

This is, the end, of a civil world my friend
Kids will lie, mothers cry, as there farther floats into the sky
Bullets rain, its insane, every one will feel the pain
And you know, its just another war and a show

Chorus
Stand back, stand tall, yeah man we‘ll defend them all
Sit back, sit tight, those kids are scared for there lives
We know they think, its all about food and drink
We know they know, its all about the war and a show

Next in line is a story of time
Ill tell you yours and you’ll tell you mine
We know each other, we know it well
The way the worlds going, yeah its going to hell

Chorus
Stand back, stand tall, yeah man we‘ll defend them all
Sit back, sit tight, those kids are scared for there lives
We know they think, its all about food and drink
We know they know, its all about the war and a show

What I see

Written By: Jamie Clarke

Every night when your asleep
I lie awake and watch you dream a dream

I’m wondering where your going
What you’re doing
Who you’ve been this time

Either way I cant stop starring, you look so beautiful tonight

Chorus
You are so beautiful to me
Words cant describe exactly what I see
You are so beautiful to me
so take my hand and lets be free

Now that we’re awake
I cherish every breath you take with me

I think of the time we share
Laughing, crying having fun oh yeah

I wouldn’t trade a thing for you
I wouldn’t trade a thing for you

Chorus
You are so beautiful to me
Words cant describe exactly what I see
You are so beautiful to me
so take my hand and lets be free

Nothing could replace you and I
It couldn’t be done even if we tried
I was made for you and you for me
Hand in hand it will always be
you and me

Chorus
You are so beautiful to me
Words cant describe exactly what I see
You are so beautiful to me
so take my hand and lets be free

Traditions Of Today

Traditions Of Today

Written by: Jamie Clarke

Verse 1
I know you like what I stand for
But you, you could be much more
Get famous within a second
The next I'm left proud and an I'm feeling centred
I feel I must prove my worth
Move building and tremble the earth
Sometimes I can't teach you what you wanted
But that don't mean that you've always lost it.

Chorus-
Life is what you make of it
Not what I've created
You will find your own way
And help break traditions, traditions of today
Of today

Verse 2
I could wonder the earth all day
Learn everything I need to say
I’d Say it too you so you can fly high
Leave this place, like it's just a drive by
You have the world at your feet
6 billion people that you can meet
all you need to do is be strong
and live this life coz you only got one

Chorus-

Verse 3
Now we never had the best to guide us
But that don't mean we should let it divide us
Lets all show every one that we can get along
Lets show every one what we have become
Now take my words and sing along
But next time you'll write your own
Tell them all the things you want them to hear
Another inspiration that we all can cheer

Chorus

Wonder Why

Wonder Why

Written by: Jamie Clarke

Now I open my ears so I can hear myself
Turmoil and trouble's all that's heard
And I think to myself as I stare at the sky
So many thoughts but they all ask why
Now I don't have the answers
Yet I don't want the questions
But I'm held and I can’t let go

Chorus
Now I will wonder why
You make me want to cry
And I just want to know
Is this all a show?
And I've been thinking through
Could this be the best of you?

Verse 2
Now I see the trees and they be swaying
I got no clue what there saying
I hope there telling me to blow all the voices away
Jump up and down and seize the day
Now I heed the advice and I'll carry on
Feeling stronger then thunder riding a storm

Chorus
Bridge
I won’t run away
With you

Verse 3
Now the voices they come and they go as they please
Each time I'm found upon my knees
And I'll fight and I'll fight and I will not run
This time its time that you’re done

Chorus Version 2
Now I won't wonder why
You made me want to cry
And I will now know
You were just a show
And these thoughts will be through
Coz this time I'm done with you

Bridge
I won't run away
With you

Be The One

Written By: Jamie Clarke

BE THE ONE

Drawings on the pavement
Pictures in the sky
There all showing, you and I
Dancers on the ceiling, dancers in the street
There all calling us to move our feet
Swing them shoulders
Wag them hips
Do your moves
Get new tricks
You’ve got style and you can sway
Let the beat run through you today

Chorus
let me be the one
The bass line to your drum
The things that we could do
Incredible me and you

Verse 2
Where on the dance floor
Moving to the beat
Where on the dance floor not indiscreet
Moving to the rhythm
And she got Flow
We aint caring if we are on show

Chorus

Verse 3
I’m a write this song
I Write it for you
Write it in a way that’ll make you groove
Let it grab your rhythm and your soul
Let it make you move
In the only way you know, you know.

Bridge (Instrumental)

Verse 4
Where on the dance floor
Moving to the beat
Where on the dance floor not indiscreet
Moving to the rhythm
And she got Flow
We aint caring if we are on show

Always Be

Written By: Jamie Clarke

Always Be

Written by: Jamie Clarke

Verse 1
I woke up just the other day
And I turned and looked at you
I couldn’t help but think about all the things
I've put you through
I know we’ve had our ups and downs and inside outs
But I can promise you one thing
That I have no doubts

Chorus
We will always be
We will always be
Sitting in our backyard
Not thinking to hard, of where we've come from
We will always be

Verse 2
I'm just a boy
You are just a girl to me
But don't think that means
That I'm too young or too naive
I promise you one day
I'll get down on my knee
And I'll pop that big old question
And then we will be

Chorus

Verse 3
Now let me take you just a little while back
We were always under attack
And nobody thought we could last
But guess what we got the last laugh

Chorus
